Anyone replicated Mythbusters props?

So I've been a fan of the show for YEARS! Probably seen all of the episodes a few times over but lately I've been on a real Mythbusters kick.

That brings me to the reason for the post. Has anyone made anything from the show?

I personally would love to have a couple of the Blueprints from the beginning of each segment (Anyone know who does the sketches? I'm assuming it's one of the usual suspects).

Also I'm dying to get my hands on a ballistics gel head with the skull inside from when Kari, Grant and Tory tested the Jason X head frozen in liquid nitrogen. They even had a brain in em made of some type of dental alginate. :love

So those are my top two must haves. And I suppose every fan should have a metal sign as well so I'll be making one of those when i get back to work and I can raid the scrap bin for some plate.

I'd love to have one of those welded Mythbusters signs. The one that looks like this...

That's the one I plan to make once I get back to work. Couple scraps of 1/4" plate and a skipped lunch and I'll have it done.

I made the originals, all three of them if memory serves. Also made the warning science content sign. it's all 1/8" mild steel plate.
Plasma cut (or acetylene) and then welded all around, then hammered to ****, and then artificially rusted (for the first run, real rust comes pretty quick) with acid and then ground with an angle grinder.

I'd post pix but I won't be back at the shop for a couple weeks. I will post then (with tape measure).
If anyone does a run I want one.

1/8 plate, even better. Adam, I would be more than happy to send you one! As for the size, I assumed there were varying sizes, but some official measurements in a couple weeks would be awesome.

I've got a sign almost finished. With no welding tools readily available, I cut mine out of styrene. Just need to finish the "welds" and paint it. Might fool around with some of the "real rust" iron paint along with other rust paint and texture techniques.

A really easy and very cool project. I'll post a picture of the work in progress tomorrow.

yeah I always wanted that sign and the BUSTED sign etc. The blueprints would be awesome too , as I am working on Wile E. Coyote ones..lol

Sounds interesting Marcus. Ingenuity at it's finest. What are you doing for the "welds"? I picture it as glue beaded up around the edges to give a weld like appearance..

That's exactly right. Can get some cool weld-like shapes with epoxy putty or hot glue. The hot glue goes much faster and often looks more like a weld than the putty (only due to my lack of sculpting skills). Once all the rust is applied and then "ground" away from the letter surfaces it works.

Hey Adam, Just an odd idea, perhaps you should talk to discovery about doing a limited licensed set of signs, LOL. I know I would buy them!

Sounds good. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I was just reading up on ballistics gel, and it sounds to me like it has a short life span after demolding? But most of these were "home recipes", perhaps the good stuff is better..Off to do some more reading...

I was in a Hallmark shop yesterday and saw a mythbusters book . I was sad it was there . Hallmark of all places...but a " mythbusters " christmas ornament

Pffft. Pictures be damned. Throw those puppies in silicone!

Going the styrene route, you could use a thin bead Milliput or Green Stuff in the corners and then take coffee stirrer at 45 degrees (or some half circle type tool) and lightly tap along the bead to give it one kind of welded look.
