Anyone replicated Mythbusters props?

Yeah, pretty much all ballistics gel starts melting pretty quick just in room temperature, IIRC. Sucks as I'd love a ballistics gel head too, although I'd imagine clear resin would have almost the same look.

Sounds good. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I was just reading up on ballistics gel, and it sounds to me like it has a short life span after demolding? But most of these were "home recipes", perhaps the good stuff is better..Off to do some more reading...

I am sure there are comercial elastimers that can duplicate the look of ballistic gel. It just won't have the properties of human tissue.

As far as a replica, the only one that comes (immediately) to mind is the robotic sword machine. I would put at the entrance to my cubical, and every time someone asked a stupid question, OFF WITH THEIR HEAD.

I guess that is the reason that they put the disclaimer at the front of the show to NOT try any of this at home, but I wonder...

For some reason seeing Adam chime in and then say he wants one too made me smile. I love this place.

I too plan on making one, however I'll be using foam core. I will end up making it approx 19.5" x 4.5. I'm not planning on making it full scale, because I really don't have the space.

Edit:

I need to have a paper copy of the letters, so i through the sign up onto photoshop and filled in the letters:

I cut them up so I can print them out at home:

If anybody needs a copy of the letters let me know I'll be more then happy to email them to you.

foam core would be good, I never knew it was so large. I would like to see more detail on the lettering sides to see how the are done.

yea, i thought the same thing. Until I ran across that picture. here it is again in another picture.

Clicky to make biggy

Edit: I didn't want to fill up the whole page with the huge picture of Adam and Jamie but the Source.

2nd Edit: Found additional pictures that show off the massive sign Here, and Here.

wow, i never realized how big the sign was(though now i think about the welding cutshots, that looks right).
eek.gif

i'm thinking 1/3 or 1/4 scale for this guy. even if i could scrounge enough metal to make it, there's no way my wall could support it. just how much DOES it weigh?

Well, I for one am not making one THAT big! I was going more for the size of the "BUSTED" signs.. Like 5 or 6 inches tall by whatever width it comes out to. I'll wait on Adams pics before deciding though.

The big one would be bad ass but, that'd weigh in at at least a couple hundred lbs in steel. I mean lok aot the welded sides, that plate is like 1/2 an inch thick.. which weights in at around 20lbs per square foot.

Is that whole thing solid steel? We should see how much it woulds cost to get the letters waterjet cut in steel. Glue them to a backing and then just use a caulking gun with silicone around the edge to get the weld effect. Or weld the edges.

Emails replied too, I've started to work on my sign, and I don't want to clog up this thread with a WIP so I started one here

Also, vistaVision do you have any progress pics of your sign? I'd love to see them :)

How about Myth Beer?

I am watching the "bottle break" episode, and they are smashing beer bottles over a pigs head, and Adam's Jello brain. The lable has Jamie and Adam and "Mythbusters Beer"

I think that lable is a snap for the paper-prop guys.

Who wants to drink Mythbusters Beer? (or,at least, good beer with a cool lable)

I thought of those too, and the Mythbusters Cola labels.

"When I'm thirsty after a hard day of blowing things up in the name of science, I reach for an Ice Cold and Rat urine free Mythbusters Cola!"

I was just about to post the same thing!

I was just about to post the same thing!

man, I was thinking the same thing during the show.

I also said "I bet Adam posts that label on the RPF" :love

To continue the thread I would LOVE a blueprint sketch from the show, those are so cool. the don't seem to do them anymore, but a little sketch signed by Jamie and Adam would be killer.

A sortakinda mythbuster prop I have is a scale working model of Grant Imahara's battlebot DEADBLOW! :lol Yeah, uber nerdy but this model/toy is pretty sweet. I've always wanted to get him to sign it somehow.

I made the originals, all three of them if memory serves.

...

If anyone does a run I want one.

This may be the first instance of a prop creator wanting to buy a replica of his creation. :lol Mark it down.

Regarding the blueprints: I've always thought they should offer them up for charity auction. I'm sure lots of fans would love to have a nice "screen used", autographed blueprint framed on their wall.
