Ok, thinking cap time... I need something that I can play a loop of just snow (like, static on a TV). I dont need any sound. And I need it only the to be a couple inches wide. I was thinking like a cell phone display, but I wouldnt know how to make that continuous. Anyone know of something that could accomplish this?

What about a Keychain Photo Viewer? It might be able to be adapted to play video:

Or an MP4 Watch:

good ideas guys - in fact, playing a "video" would just be an extra perk - something lit is what I am mainly searching for, so if I can get one of the photo keychains cheap, that might be the ticket...

you need a simple animated gif and the item in question to play it back on. Jedifyfe nailed it. Photo viewers are readily and cheaply available in many sizes. What you want is one that will play animated gif's which is not common for a photo viewer. If you find the right sized on but it doesnt play gif's, check its image rotation and if it can be changed. Most photo viewers will have a minimum 5 second rotation while some have a one second (and some even less) option. The lowest I have found are .5 seconds. Most only will work with Windows 2000 or XP unless they have opted to pay to have the software updated which isnt common but maybe youll get lucky. You can get them at most electronics stores and always on ebay.

Even ipods play video. The little one I have has a build in camera as do most cell phones these days. If you have a cell phone that plays video or internet, your already there.

If this is for a film or video project, have your back up green screen handy. Much of the time the graphic or picture doesnt read proper and it has to be placed back in post.

^^^^ This is what I was thinking. Maybe you guys can come up with a better method for what I am trying to accomplish. I am looking for a way to replicate the sonar eyes seen on Batman in The Dark Knight. For my 1:1 bust. I have everything in place (lenses, etc.), just needed a method to have "snow" in the lit up eyes. Anyone think of a better method to do this?

I would think some sort of projection system would work. The lenses for the mask would need a semi-reflective coating to catch the projection, but you might be able to score a toy projector and rig it to play the static. I don't know how much space you have to work with so that might not be an option.

if you could post pictures it would be easier to solve. It sounds like a combination may be the best result. The lenses could be light from the bottom to illuminate them and either project the image from the rear (it just wont be as bright) or use the mentioned picture viewers. The issue with picture viewers or any self contained device is they will be out of sync. If you need them in sync it has to run off one source. Makes me wonder if there is a way to hack into a cell phone or small screen to run a pair off a single unit.
