Anyone have a correct template for the old Dragnet LAPD card

Here's a question. I understand at one point in the life of the series 6 badge that the Detective rank was not used. Does anyone have the dates ?

Even the Centurions Shield doesn't mention this.

Nice work Caplan :thumbsup

Thanks to another member I've seen a really nice clear colour image of a genuine card.

I can't use it here, but it just blows me away to see the little details and the true colouring.

I'm thinking now the genuine Dragnet card has yellowed badly as the one I saw is white, with a light bluey grey background to the lower box. Also the eagle & seal is a much deeper orange yellow.

thank you my friend

for the true id, Eltee a nice réplica:)...
for the other color it's no problems, but your work it's very nice(y)thumbsup
your réplica it's very rare and great appréciate.

Thanks Caplan
Looking at the brief shot in the movie where this card is featured I don't think it is that gold in colour, a very weak gold if at all :confused I've just gave it a slight tone. But it wouldn't be that difficult to tweak the tones on the eagle a little.

I always like seeing how a film prop maker does things, on the real movie card they used a later version of the LA city seal than on the genuine cards of that era. It has the same elements just arranged slightly differently.

Probably not, due to reflections and so on. But that said I will laminate mine just to keep it good.

Hi, I've been collecting real and replica prop ID cards for over 25 years. If you do not have to laminate it, don't. If you are displaying it behind glass, within a badge case with a window, etc. you may want to consider leaving it unlaminated. I have some expensive, screen used/seen ID cards from movies and TV shows that are self destructing while sitting in my safe. We call it lamination rot. These cards came from the studio laminated.

Seems as if the heat and chemicals used in the lamination process are incompatible, over time, with certain inks, esp. some ink-jet printer inks. The old printers' inks on quality card stock holds up so far. I have alot of the police ID cards from the 60's and 70's that are holding up well, although they show a little yellowing/browning (both the card stock and the plastic) which is normal.

If it is a replica card that can be easily replace, lamination is fine, especially if it is going to be handled but I would consider caution if it can't be replaced and if it was ink-jet printed. There are long-life inks, archival quality lamination materials, etc. but if I don't have to, I will avoid laminating my valuable cards. Ink jet inks are just not the same as the old printers' inks.

YMMV

Thanks for the info Gary, yes if it was an old or genuine item I wouldn't do anything to it at all.
I would only laminate the copies I do myself.

Nice one Caplan. Is this a good movie, i've never seen it ?

You guys and this place are a tremendous inspiration and source of info and images. Until I came here I'd neglected this hobby.

Here's a few of the LAPD IDs i've made over the past couple weeks :)
(I'm afraid due to various reasons I can't post any templates of these, sorry, apart from the LA Confidential one already posted).

Thanks Paul :) No i'm not going to get badges or even wallets, this is a budget hobby so the cards will have to do.

Apart from the Dragnet & LA Confidential cards, the rest are middle right, Al Pacino, Insomnia. Bottom middle David Janssen, from a film called Warning Shot. And middle & bottom left is Gene Barry from a 1960s series called Burke's Law, about a millionaire who was also an LAPD captain. The show came back in 1994 with him now an Asst Chief. Sounds terrible :lol but Gene Barry was in The War of the Worlds so I'll forgive him this series :thumbsup

I must admit i've never heard of the last two characters either, but I did those for that friend who supplied me with all those ID photos.
