Anyone Build a Moisture Vaporator?

I've been thinking about building one of these. I have a few pieces of junk that look a bit like part of a moisture vaporator already, so why not? I'll have to come apart, though, for storage. I think one of these would look cool on a con floor.

No, but I did build a binary load-lifter, very similar to your vaporator in most respects.

vistaVision FTW! :lol

I shouldn't be that hard to build because I think they changed them for each movie. So just get a bunch of tubing and junk to build one. I could be wrong though.

Mine would be "close enough", since the parts I have aren't exact and I'm not building it to scale. I do want it tall though.

Any ideas on a small, plug in motor that'll turn the top "wind speed" looking things slowly? Something I can hack but would fit in a small-ish tube. Nothing is coming to mind right now. Everything I think of, like a can opener, is too bulky.

Find a used set of K'nex toys. Their motors are idiotproof and since it's a building system you can setup the gearbox easily. They even have a chaindrive so you can position stuff easily. The newer rollercoasters are probably more than you want to spend but you can probably find parts/used sets on evilbay. :thumbsup

Good idea. I used an motor out of a Robotix set to run my Fett rangefinder up and down. But are those battery powered, or AC? I want to be able to plug it in and run it all day long.

I did some research on vaporators and built on in 3ds Max as a composite from different movie photos - definitely not claiming to be the definitive visual concept, just my take on it.

I began building one, but realized I was making it harder than it needed to be. The Belgian guys apparently have a really easy way of doing it. Anyway, here's some photos...

I'm bringing my Speeder to CV and wanted a couple moisture vaps next to it. Using Chris' plans I started with sonotubes and some plywood.

Not much to see....but here's what I did on day 1.

Oh wow! That's great! When I finally buy I house I plan on erecting a moisture vaporator, full-scale Monolith, and TARDIS spaced about amongst the landscaping.

I'm not real pleased with the way the two halves are going together. I may add some width to the bottom and top parts to give the indention where the arms come out a little more definition. When it's all done...it should be around 15 feet or so. I've got to figure out where to split it up so I can get it in my trailer :lol

I've never really built anything like this before...so I'm moving along very slowly. We'll see how it turns out and thanks for the kind words. :)

Wayne, if you need any lights or motors let me know. I have some small motors here that you could use for the top.
