I think he is referring to your first three caps in post #93.
I think part of my confusion is that there's clearly a film discontinuity/change in the scene. The diploma sitting above the filing cabinet CHANGES during the scene. When they first show it, it's the Pacific Coast University diploma and then while Mary Astor is talking to Bogart, it changes into a different diploma about the time Sam's partner Miles Archer comes in (and the Pacific Coast one seems to disappear, but later shows up next to the Grand Canyon calendar instead of over the filing cabinet). I wonder if anyone ever even noticed that change before?

Proof:
Pacific Coast University next to window over filing cabinet and later appears by the calendar (no window near it). The "F" on the book on the cabinet also disappears.

Additional Shots (not very readable, but with the grain changing, it may be possible to make something out):

I wonder who would have played the Russian...had their been a sequel
That might have been difficult given Gutman was killed by Wilmer in the book and Spade told the police where to pick them up for the murders in the movie. That leaves Spade having been told about it, but he knows nothing about the Russian and declined to go to Istanbul in the first place. In the book, he goes back to Archer's wife.

Conran of Sky Captain fame is the only person I would trust to do a Deep Fake movie sequel.

Zeros perhaps attack and Gutman and company get away...Spade following to Moscow perhaps.

Technically, there was a sequel made to The Maltese Falcon. It was called, The Black Bird from 1975 and starred George Segal. It even has Elisha Cook Jr. in it reprising his role as Wilmer Cook. Oddly, it features a full feathered version of the Falcon that Haunted Studios definitely sold a recreation of it. Others might have as well.

The problem with it is that it's trying to be a spoof comedy sequel and it's just not funny. Yet since it's not really trying to be serious either, it just comes across as well, god awful if I'm going to be honest about it. I loved Segal on Just Shoot Me, which was a comedy sitcom, but this doesn't work. It was difficult to find a copy to even check it out since it was so bad.

There is a nice prequel book to the Maltese Falcon called, Spade & Archer by Joe Gores that came out in 2009. It ends right where The Maltese Falcon begins. It's really not bad at all.

I wouldn't mind seeing a movie made of it if it were done well. It explains a lot of background information about Spade's relationship with Archer and his wife while having some cases of its own to solve.

Just curious..
I came across this video where John Huston's son, Danny, takes a tour of Warner Bros archives and is shown a mold and casting of the Falcon.. it's the full feather version.
I know the story goes that the original bird was full feather and that they decided to smooth it over for the finished look.. but i was wondering, obviously the inner latex mold would be in too fragile a state to be used again, so can i assume the orange casting that he's holding is actually an original Falcon from the time of production?
.. or even, dare i say, Fred Sexton's original Falcon sculpt, as it curiously seems affixed to the wooden board as you would a clay figure to work it?!

It shipped today so I should be good. It claims to already be fully functional. I don't know where I can put it anywhere near my Maltese Falcon display, though....

That’s amazing

The Mary Astor "Wonderly" apartment Ronson Touch Tip lighter (circa 1936-1940) and cigarette box with the correct pattern and fully working has arrived. It can stand some metal polishing and what not, but the big trick will be finding a place to display it as it's quite large (almost 8 inches wide I think).
