Yes I know he's in San Francisco but the Empire State Building picture just looks really good there.

Also the phone is an AE40, Spade used an AE34, I have one but it's plugged in on my desk and I don't want to move it.

Fun display! I never was happy with that version of Spade's Detective certificate, I can't quite make out what the one in the movie actually says. It's annoyingly close to being readable.

January 10, 1961: Decades of chain smoking kills Dashiell Hammett at 66. He'd served his country in both world wars warranting burial at Arlington. Visited him there a few years ago

This is what I've been squinting at the last couple days. Best shot in the movie is during the second scene with Archer's widow. Had to take a picture of the Bluray on the TV with my phone. Anybody with the ability to take BluRay screencaps willing to help me out here? I'm pretty sure the second and third words are "________ Insurance Company", then "of _____" . In the end I'll probably end up creating something more appropriate from scratch to match the shape, but more info of the original is always better.

Yeah, the one that is there in the first scene is a diploma from Pacific Coast University. After Archer enters the room the mystery certificate appears and the diploma moves the the wall behind Archers desk.

I'd like to see a 1931movie version bird reproduction, personally.

I've always wanted to get/update/ a bird to look like the "actual" one described in the movie jewel crusted and golden. The best I could do for now is a Photoshop edit of the "OZ" statue I have:

What it "might" have looked like:

My own current display (few in number, but HIGH in price due to the incredibly expensive MINT condition Touch Tip lighter that's almost like new):

Hey! I like the bookshelf theme! It reminds me of my Indiana Jones bookshelf display. I might have to start another diorama bookshelf some day for another shelf or something. Some of those items looks hard to find, though. Seeing that Spade & Archer sequel book reminds me I haven't read mine yet (or even the Maltese Falcon novel itself).

What glass is that on top of the radio and which scene was it from?

The pitcher and glass appear under the mystery certificate and next to the globe (on my list) after Spade reorganizs the Office. I bought the glass at Ikea years ago.

I'm not certain if there's a person left on the planet that can answer that definitively. I was looking for a case lighter from an Edward G. Robinson/Bogart movie called Bullets for Ballots and after months of searching, the only one that matched that pattern was a tortoise striped one. In fact, I found that pattern in all three case models that made that year, but not one black version so I settled for getting the tortoise ones and converted to black and white, they do look rather black. I'd imagine the same would be true of the Touch Tip, but it's complicated by the fact they definitely made black versions. If they had showed a closeup, you might be able to tell if there are variations in the black since the lighter portions in tortoise wouldn't be pure black, but from a distance, not a chance, IMO. Heck, it took awhile to figure out for certain it was the Ronson Twentycase (the one on the right below) that was in the movie.

Comparison: Ronson Master Case, Ronson Ten-A-Case, Ronson Twenty-Case. As you can see, how much "light" tortoise determines whether you can tell in Back & White along with the black and white exposure and lighting. At the bottom is the scene from Bullots or Ballots. It sure looks black to me, but I haven't found a single example yet in that scheme.

The desk model in question that they made because I have a choice of black/Ivory or tortoise/Ivory, which is it ?
