Truer words have never been spoken.
I think being an "elitest" and being a grade A douchenozzle are separate things, though

I am not sure what this is all about but I have to respectfully disagree. I think you just came up with the PERFECT definition for Elitist.
Elistist text book definition:
a person who believes that a system or society should be ruled or dominated by an elite.
or
favoring, advocating, or restricted to an elite.
So I think "grade A douchenozzle" is great definitioncheers You should copyright it.

I consider myself an elitist when it comes to Snowtroopers, but I don't go out of my way to be a ****** about it.
No,..there is a difference between wanting to make something as well as you can and being an elitist. If you were to say no one should be allowed to go out in a Snowtrooper costume unless they drop thousands into it that would make you an elitist.
As far as people's feelings about the 501st. It's a club. Their club, their rules. If you want to join that's the deal. I am not good at playing with others so I was never interested.
We have a group in my town that does events but they welcome anyone in any Star Wars costume and even though many are 501st and beyond in quality many are not and I think they have a lot more fun.

Deep down, in my cold ice black heart that is me, screams in silent terror and simplistic inaccuracies when looking at costumes
That said, my warm fuzzy outer coating welcomes anyone who is and or is willing to join our snowtrooper detachment, the Blizzard Force. Much to some people's dismay and opinion, the detachments were set out as a resource and the "maintenance" of costume standards. While I'd like to require everyone to use the same exact hardware or pieces to assemble it accurately, I've gotta pull myself back from letting my inner wampa from coming out to play and bite some heads off.
Of course, the FISD has different "levels," much like other detachment characters, but we did away with them. There's no sense in making different standards when it's equally the same cost to do it right the first time around

Ok I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately very inaccurate, lip around eyes too thin, teeth too symetrical and even overall details way too sharp and sanitized ruining the overall look, to get that level of sharpness plastic must be no more than 60 gauge which is very thin, back plate completely inaccurate, box too high should sit more flat all around, the O II detail all wrong proportions the O detail inside is too small ect....

Anovos has said that they will respond with another newsletter soon to the comments made about the sharpness of the pulls and the thickness of the materials. I suspect many of the problems we see right now are the result of bad photos. Most of those pictures were taken with one light source, which accentuate the edges and create big shadows.
And as usual, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Some of us are very excited about this and it's kind of a downer to have people label it as a piece of crap when no one has actually seen it first hand.
Many 501st member have bought these kits and have said that the kit, even though it is not screen accurate, will work for 501st approval, with a few modification.I wouldn't say most comments. Anybody who knows anything about TK's can see that these are wrong but I understand it is a mass consumption product and 99% of the people won't care.
Remember that most armor available are fan sculpt, so they are not perfectly accurate but rather a recreation of a TK armor. What Anovos has done is similar in that regard. They used their references, which may or may not include 3d scanning of an original suit, used that to create their sculpt, made the bucks out of that. Yes, it is somewhat idealized, yes it is not a perfect recreation of the screen used suits.
Also most of the homemade pulls from the mom and pop shops are from plastic or wooden forms these are from machined metal. the metal may produce sharper lines on thicker plastic do to the conductiveness of the metal. there is only so much you can speculate from a photo.
