Anovos Kylo Ren helmet COMPLETE overhaul/repaint

Me too! That's one piece of internet jibber-jabber i hope is true!

Rich

We heared so much great things before TLJ...and at the end it was all hot air.I really hope this time its not.
But JJ has a better feeling for SW I would say.I go with no expectations in the next movie.

Excellent work!

Having disassembled the helmet, were you able to reinstall the Anovos helmet liner?

Sean

Thanks Sean!

I could, but I actually liked the mesh that I found a little better for the cheeks, so I threw it out and am currently making a custom liner for it instead.

Do you have a definitive idea of what the cheek material looks like? Would you say the material in this pic is improvised or accurate?

That helmet is 100% the one used on film as the hero helmet in scenes like where he’s talking as Vader’s helmet, so it’s accurate. In the original post above of mine, take a look at all the reference I posted and you’ll see that that specific helmet from celebration is the one used in multiple aspects of both films.

The mesh is really interesting. I just so happened to find something the other day that was really really close in my opinion and so I grabbed a yard of it. I can try to post some pictures of it later!

Fantastic! Maybe you can share the fabric with me on FB? I might make it part of that Ultimate Edition helmet i'm working on......

Yeah, that wouldn't be a problem at all. I can possibly find the code for it as well so that you can get some ordered, or possibly I could ship you some of mine!

Wanted to show a few updates! I found a mesh that I was happy with for the eyes, so that’s pretty great!

Also, I realized I never showed good pics of the chrome weathering.....
So, from what I’ve been able to see in some unfortunately no-share pics, the chrome ridges are very weathered... not just a few little spots here and here, but splattered with what I’ve been told was light grey dirty down and oil paints.

I don’t have access to dirty down, because of where I live, but I found that I could get a similar color between a mix of a grey and blue stain, stipple it, spraying it, and wiping it off. I made sure towards the sides of the helmet it was thicker with paint and stain while the front of the ridges were just splattered and weathered. I’ve attached some reference though unfortunately you can’t see the detail as much as you can in the no-share pics.

Fantastic work on the weathering. Love all the detailing you put into this!

Is that the stock Anovos eye mesh or did you replace it? Looks darker than what I have in mine...

Sean

May I ask what you used for it? How's the visibility?

Sean

Here’s some pics for you... the cheeks are something else entirely that I found.

It’s amazing. The more I compare pics of this helmet, the screen used, the prop shop and the Anovos.... the prop shop had the paint job nailed other than the cheeks but it was off when I came to details due to the chrome areas being a whole separate piece. The Anovos had a much better model, but just missed out on the accurate paint job.

I saw this pic of the prop shop and realized “man.... I didn’t even use that as reference and it looks close to mine” [emoji23]

That's good stuff, Man. Thanks for sharing! Do you happen to have any extra material lying around that you'd part with?

Sean

Don't want to detract from your awesome thread. I'll hit you up separately.

Sean

Sounds fantastic!

I also realized I haven’t posted any pics with the hood up and scarf on... that’s kind of what sells the whole look. I have another hood/scarf combo made out of JJV2 coming in to go with a custom robe I’m having built. This is my display hood and scarf. Neck seal is obviously PH props.
