ANOVOS issues (ANOVOS ONLY discussion)

Hey, Gang -

I assume these jokers may make an appearance at some Convention in the future. Though we may get thrown out, there are a lot of perfectly legal things we can do to make their experience a bad one through protest demonstration. Myself, I already have tickets for the next Star Wars Celebration and, having lost so much interest now (blame Anovos to a great degree), I do not care about being thrown out.

It is early yet and the pandemic reigns but it won't be such a scamper if you plant the seed in your head now.

Remember - legal is a MUST.

Hey! I'm looking to hear from readers for a piece about prop collectibles/cosplay manufacturer Anovos and their history of protracted delays and dodgy customer service. If you've had experience with them good or bad and want to share, hit me up at james.whitbrook@gizmodo.com!

Helmet came today. Rey X-wing.

Not what I’d originally wanted (waited for years on the Rogue One Blue Leader,) but it looks great. Comparing to the one from the StarWarsHelmets review, it’s a little less heavily weathered, the “X” is less of a plus sign and more natural looking, and I actually really like how a lot of the weathering appears to have been done by physically scraping the surface, not just the sort of blurry painted approximation of weathering we often get from mass produced stuff.

It took way longer to deliver something I didn’t originally want, and communication was not good throughout. It does not change my mind about whether or not to order anything from Anovos in the future. But I’m not worrying about lost money anymore, and if I ever want to sell I will be able to.

I’m not going to tell anyone what to do with their delayed orders, but if I had anything else I was waiting on I’d feel slightly better about transferring the funds to something in-stock. That said, just like how getting refunds was easy until it wasn’t, this may not work for everyone, and so I wouldn’t advise giving them more money to make it happen.

As a final note, I didn’t want to mention it till everything was all finished with dealing with potential issues, but I’m a bit annoyed (“a bit” is going a lot of lifting here) that Anovos told me that the in-stock Royal Guard helmets were something that couldn’t be discounted (my potential discount was about 25-40% depending on the item,) yet somehow a couple days after I agreed to do the Rey lid, the flash sale happened for the Royal Guards: in-stock, shipping now... 25% off discount.

I sent them my experience. Two positive ones (receiving two helmets within 6 months of their orders), and one very horrible one (4 years and 7 months waiting for a $2000USD costume that has yet to ship and likely still won't be out before 2021, even though they spent all of 2018 telling me it had finished production and would ship any week now).

Probably still good to keep this thread near the top. Not only has Anovos moved their whole world into Q4 and beyond but it has - and stand back! - a red warning and asterisk to let us know that all dates are just estimates!!

Nothing new (as you can see from picture of me waiting in my avatar).

Any chance you have some photos of the Rey helmet?

I finally received my previously requested store credit and today I received an email that the Royal Guard helmet was "available in limited quantities" and available to Interest List folks first. So took the jump and converted my credit into an order for that. If I actually get the helmet it works out, I've lost interest in building an FOTK and have always wanted to build a Guard. I do have a little hope since they recently did ship a bunch of these helmets out, but then again, it is Anovos. We'll see how it goes...

Ordinarily, I'd not want to jinx anything or anyone but i may have daylight on my refund saga too ... gotta a 1:1 trade for an in stock item and my refund, happy Charlie was able to work it out ... no shipping notice yet... so im not holding my breath ... but we'll see...

Wishing you luck Scimitar, hope you close out your saga soon.

Did the same about a month ago. It was 'in stock', and i've not heard anything yet.

For anyone with the Mandalorian helmet, has anyone successfully removed the ears in order to fix the the way they flare out? It looks like the defect is just due to them being unevenly glued. I don't want to risk damaging the helmet trying to pry them off.

I would love to hear what people have to say. Mine has the flared ears, and lord knows, I wasn’t going to send it back fearing I’d never see the helmet again.

Just got this email along with some photos of the standard line:

As we enter into the fourth quarter of 2020, we have great news and an amazing update for all of you very patient people! The final Pre-production sample of the Kylo Ren Costume Ensemble has been approved and production has begun! Getting to this point has been a long road, but we are eager to get these through production, packed, and into your happy hands.

As shipping draws near, we want to get a couple things sorted out:

If you have a new delivery address, please contact our Customer Service Department as soon as possible so they can update your records.

If you need to adjust your size, please speak up now by responding to this message!

You have until 23 October 2020 to reply to this message. After that, we will lock your order, and no changes can be made in terms of sizing.

As this is a limited run, it is extremely important to request any size change now as not all sizes are available. If the size you want to change to is not available, you will be added to a waiting list, so that if your size becomes available we can facilitate the size swap!

We have included pictures below of the final pre-production sample of the Standard kit. Enjoy!

Kind Regards,
Charlie
