Please walk me through the differences - I really want to see these. ...and if you could include the EFX Collectibles differences as well. Maybe I’m just not seeing these differences.
Thanks.
I was waiting for a chance to paint one myself, but since that won’t be for a few more weeks at least, sure, I will point some stuff out.
I should note first of all, they are all paint issues. Aside from the Anovos casts lower ear being a bit sharper than it should be, the casts look very nice.
The first thing you should notice comparing Anovos and the real helmet is the lack of color variation. The film helmet was sprayed at “half opacity” so to say with the chrome, with the exception of the back vent and parts of the ears. Those areas were sprayed to full opacity and as such have a much brighter finish. It looks like Anovos *may* have tried to add the detail on the ear but the contrast missed the mark. It is definitely not on the vent. Adding it would be as easy as making a few vacuum form stencils, and the vent should be a separate piece, so missing them can not be blamed on mass production or the need for “shortcuts.” (Which is an awful excuse on its own.)
The second thing you should notice is the way the helmet is weathered. The real helmets have its chrome applied, a clear coat put over it, and some special oil paint washes and techniques. Anovos’ weathering is heavily concentrated on the edges, the rest of the helmet is too clean. The real helmets also had an additional pass of weathering with another paint over that.
Anovos, again, basing on the promo photos and the photo from production we have seen, is missing that extra paint layer. Not even to mention a main part of it being the wrong color. There is also some missing tone shifting which is a by product of the weathering, I don’t want to share any more than that at this time.
EFX is a little better. It looks like they followed the proper steps a little more closely and even caught the variation on the back vent. To go even further, it seems like they caught the upper and mid ear color variation in the low quality “production sample” photo they posted, but until we have a better photo of that side it’s hard to say. It does look like they still missed the strip down the center of the lower earcap though. If you want to get into smaller details, the visor is mounted too low on the EFX production helmet. Hopefully that will be adjusted, but if not it is a very easy fix.
Now as I’ve said over and over, we won’t know for sure until they’re in our hands, but this is my assessment from the photos we have seen.
I should also note that not every helmet was painted the same. Chrome is a difficult thing, and you can see the helmet change several times over in each episode. Any time I speak about this helmet I am referring to the “Hero” helmets. The helmets seen in most close ups and promotional material.
