another HIC build!...

Hey Brad, got any dimmers in that room? Would love to see a shot of it under difused lighting ... it looks incredible! Kudos to you.

Klocket, it's attached with a "french cleat" that I got from Home Depot, it cost about $15

OOK Hangman 200 lb. French Cleat Picture Hanger with Wall Dog Mounting Screws (13-Piece Pack)

Simmon, I'll take some new pics soon, I'm kinda waiting until I get off my butt and finish off the side panels. I may do some more light weathering on it too. The thing is SOOO hard to get an accurate picture of.

pinder91, the thing has to weigh at least 150-200 lbs. I overbuild the heck out of it because I didn't want any cracks in the bondo I used on the seams :)

thanks for all the kind words!

Thanks for all of the useful information here, (& the posts in my build thread)!

I bought the cleat you linked to, (I think that's going to work wonderfully!), & tried some of your paint choices too, (that Krylon Stainless Steel didn't work for me at all...I'm guessing they changed the formulation since you used it or I got several cans from a bad/expired batch... :) ).

At this point, I wound up using Rust-O-Leum Painter's Touch 2x Ultra Cover Flat Gray Primer for the frame/box, ("12 oz. Flat gray Primer Spray Paint (6-Pack)-182686 at The Home Depot"), & using Rust-O-Leum Painter's Touch 2x Ultra Cover Metallic Aluminum for the body/center, ("12 oz. Aluminum General Purpose Spray Paint-249128 at The Home Depot").

SO...on to a quick question for you...

Can you give a little run-down on your acrylic wash methodology? You know, 1 part powdered black acrylic paint to 9 parts water, applied with a brush/sponge/bucket, removed with different sponge/towel/kitty litter, etc... :)

I feel reasonably confident I could figure it out with trial & error, but I've reached the point - as I do toward the end of most of these projects - where I'm sick of the whole thing & just want to finish. :D SO, any information would be greatly appreciated.

...& thanks - again.

Well, I wish there was a trick to the wash, but it's really pretty simple. I used black acrylic that comes in the tubes at Michael's, but you can use any black acrylic paint you like I think. I just watered it down and played around with it, wiping it on and off. If you don't like how it looks, you just add or subtract as needed.

On my HIC, I completely painted and washed it...then re-did it all again.

To my eye, many of the pics floating around of the screen-used HIC (that you see at exhibits and shows) seems overly weathered when compared to the actual screen shots of the HIC used in ESB and ROTJ. So, most fan-made HIC's seem a little too over-weathered to me. I went with a little more minimal wash, but it could probably use a bit more. :)

So, now that you're totally confused...:lol
