ANH Vader Experts- Misc. Questions...

Gone but not forgotten.
1. On the mouth grill- it is double layered like later versions, and if so, how does it line up to be correct?

2. On the goatee grill- is it the same mesh as the mouth? Is it double layered too?

3. Did everyone ever decide on the right eye color? Amber, red, or maybe bronze smoked?

4. On the Apple tabs- are the wide or narrow ones right?

I'll probably think of more later, and if anyone else has any questions feel free to post them here. :)

Thanks!

As I said in the other thread about the mesh.

With the danger of sounding abrasive,These are fairly simple things to find out yourself with a little homework.

In General You wont get all questions about Vader easily answered anyway, and if I'm honest your interest seems mainly for sales.

I can answer one of the questions. It looks like the bottom grill IS double meshed. but the outer mesh looks like a fine wire mesh (compared to the ESB and ROTJ chin mesh). AS far as what was used under it, I can say. Possibly something as simple as a dark colored fabric. But I'm no expert onthe ANH mask. Sorry Sarg.:unsure

They probably are if I had the time to comb through 4-5 message boards w/ thousands of posts each to find them. Right now though, there are a bunch of things going on in my home life that I've got to give attention to first. Today alone, I've got to get a price on gravel for 1000' of extremely muddy driveway, call Paypal and figure out why I have $600.00 less in my account than I'm supposed to, renew my car insurance, call about assistance with my heating/ electric bill, get my wife to start her tax return stuff, clean up after my kid, check at UPS to see if my new resin is here, answer a pile of emails, work toward getting my new Boba molds finished, clean up Vader's helmet so it can be molded soon... It goes on and on.

And you would be correct. I like Star Wars stuff as much as the next guy, but my actual collecting interests run toward the wierd stuff no one else has. Klingon statues from the TNG set, Picard's archeological artifacts, etc.

But, this is what I do for a living, and I have to make things "everyone" wants if I'm going to keep my bills paid. So I figure if I'm going to add yet another ANH Vader helmet to the hobby, I might as well make it the best I can and maybe add some goodies and details to it no one else has ever offered before.

I was wondering about that on the goatee myself- it "looks" slightly different somehow, but it's usually in a shadow or at such an acute angle, that I can't really make out anything concrete on it.

Thanks!

1. On the mouth grill- it is double layered like later versions, and if so, how does it line up to be correct?
One layered.

Placement: check the elstree face picture I posted in your other thread - placed accurately for ANH.

2. On the goatee grill- is it the same mesh as the mouth? Is it double layered too?
Same. One layered. During filming it was backed with black cloth.

3. Did everyone ever decide on the right eye color? Amber, red, or maybe bronze smoked?
Yes: clear with brown cellophane heated onto the back - which would make them amber-ish/smoked bronze-ish.

4. On the Apple tabs- are the wide or narrow ones right?
Narrow. Correct ones depend on the placement of the holes and look of the tab itself.

So I figure if I'm going to add yet another ANH Vader helmet to the hobby, I might as well make it the best I can and maybe add some goodies and details to it no one else has ever offered before.
The only thing you can do that nobody else has done is to do an ANH two-part reveal - facemask with reveal details and dome. Everything else has been done. However, this means more work and a higher price for the final product. Currently, what you are doing is the same as what everybody else is doing, I'm sorry to say.

Hehe, you know... I was really tempted to try that! :lol "I" think it would be cool as hell, but I wondered if anyone would buy them since they weren't canon. (kind of like Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons trying to sell the picture of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore :D)

It would definitely set your offering apart and would cater to the movie accurate collectors and not so much to the prop accurate collectors. For something of this kind it would stand out and as I HAVE the prop accurate pieces, then only something like this could possibly get my interest.

Don't most craftsmen offer their goods for this very reason? I see nothing wrong with what Sarge is doing, and if I had the information, I would readily PM him with it. There are a few good looking ANH lids out there, but accurate ANH lids? I could go on about how one of the higher end lids has a thick, bull neck flare, that in my opinion, takes away from the piece. The dome for that piece is spectacular, but the face mask...not so much.

Let's the guy work, and offer him a hand if you can, like NHM did.

Just in case you havent seen it, this is DarthKahnts ANH HD reference page.

I fully beleive the lenses were amber. Even when I was a kid watching it on VHS I thought it was cool that Vaders eyes were red. As to the exact hue materieal etc. I wish I could help.

Cant wait to see what comes of this project! I agree that if you were going to do an ANH reveal that would be something unique and interesting, but I think that a seperate set of molds should be made so you could do both!

If you did want to offer a 'reveal' greeblie kit for an ANH mask it gives you the creative freedom to invent the stuff yourself as we never saw it in the film!

Good luck with your project I say!

The tabs should have screw holes in them and recessed areas where the screws would be. It's very difficult to find the right tabs and not every Apple computer has them. There are tabs that have no holes and just an adhesive...those are from later Apple computers...and they don't have the recessed area for the screws. I also think they don't have the little indents on the sides. I look forward to seeing your project.

Hey SL! Thanks for dropping in! :)

Sounds like you've got a pretty cool helmet on the horizon yourself! Can't wait to see pics!

I remember one of the threads I was looking at a few days ago, somebody mentioned that the Apple tabs were made by 3M for a variety of things besides computers- has anyone checked with them to see if they're still made?

Yup. They're not. Sadly so. Otherwise there would be FS threads all the time.

However, it is still a pretty lousy fixing mechanism...
