ANH Luke Saber questions

A rivet was used in most every other screen-seen ANH prop.

The Allen Head screw was popular for years because Blast-tech uses them in his conversion kits and a bolt and nut are easier for everyone then a pop riven gun.

Rivet is accurate.

This is the famous "Toe Pic" probably the only shot that shows the D ring and what holds it.
It was from this picture that we determined that only one rivit was holding the bracket in place. Centering the D ring as shown on Darth Saber's Blueprint.

The 2 rivit theory is probably because the ESB Version does in fact have 2 rivits or screws and the Kobold part as the D ring bracket.

I converted my ANH Graflexes to the one rivit style.

But, you should take the glass eye part out. It wasn't on the screen used prop.

Here's a question I have about the ANH saber:

I just bought a converted Graflex the other day, and this was the D-Ring that came attached:

I know about the correct Tandy D-Ring rig (I have one), but what I'm wondering is if this is accurate at all? Was there a version of the ANH saber with this kind of attachment? I see a LOT of fan converted Graflexes with this same D-Ring on it. What's the deal?

Also, I know I have the wrong number of grips on the saber. That will be getting corrected in the nearish future once I buy some more T-track off Saberfreak.

Icons did this type of bracket on their replica. That's why so many fan replicas copied this feature until the "Toe Pic" surfaced.

First I've ever heard of the actual glass piece being removed.

I could see it, as the glass could catch and reflect light into the camera, or was just broken, but I've never seen anything to suggest one way or the other.

I would have to say without evidence I would lean toward the glass being in place.

That looks pretty definitive to me, the glass eye is domed glass and therefore highly reflective. There's nothing going on in that picture where the glass eye should be, not even a little glimmer.

Isn't that a post-production promotional image taken in Cailfornia? I'm guessing because of Mark's longer hair.

I thought some props and costumes were in California for a while, and then back to England?

I have no doubt that saber is the screen used one, but if it is post production there is no evidence that the Saber was missing the glass eye during filming, only that the glass was removed after filming finished.

We would need an on-screen photo or screen shot to show either way.

I just think that the lighting is not catching the glass in a way to make a reflection. Very much like this pic of my saber.
Doesn't it look like it is missing in this pic? It is there though.

I don't think the pic Dan posted shows anything definitive at all.

I'd be interested in seeing anything else that was more definitive though.

I agree with Gino. In that photo the glass eye is in shadow.
Look at the body of the Graflex, it's pure black at that level, the glass eye would be the same (as it is).
The light source is from the upper left. The glass eye is set deep - it won't have a highlight on it at that angle.
