Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion
also the "hole" is smaller that the threaded rod on the mount in Naked Runner AND there is no mount hole visible in the pre production blaster (without Grill) at the rear position.
curious problem.
I know Lonepigeon addressed earlier.
I think we just have to figure out if the disk is recessed or missing paint. The questions for why and what it was is only relevant to figuring out what it left behind and should look like.
My point was that if the production/film receiver is that same as the pre production (grillless) receiver, then they PUT a disk/pulley on there and carved the grill to fit. If it was the Naked runner receiver it would have larger diameter holes in front and rear.
If it was a NEW receiver, why put the disk area there at all. Maybe for continuity?
Maybe, as I said before, they used the NR receiver for the Merr Sonn castings as suggested by Lonepigeon, realized the HS version would not holster with the pulley/raised disks on it OR it kept coming off so they either swapped the receiver or hid the holes?
One note too, as far as I know, c96 Mausers were not particularly interchangeable so it may not have been that easy to find another lower to fit and operate. It would need smithing. No doubt they had some available but then they "could have welded up the holes and refinished the gun too.
