ANH Han Solo Belt Disk

So are these still available anywhere? Ebay seems fresh out... probably on account of this thread. ;)

We never learn, do we? I sincerely hope you find one, and that in six months the price for one hasn't gone up to something ridiculous.

Davy Jones, I'd say you're right about those details, I definitely agree that the mesh on Han's ANH version is the lighter stuff.

I'm amazed they tapped the back of it or managed to attach it without running a bolt through it. Much more meticulous than I expected of them :)

Wouldn't you know it, those elements turned up on eBay the day after I bought this:

Luckily this was far cheaper (especially with import tax and shipping from the US to the UK!)

It's a Telefunken M.M.65 for those who may be interested. Made by Ronette and apparently also marketed under their own branding:

I wonder if the case was used as a greeblie for anything?

Here's a size comparison with the Vom bullet mic:

And with the Elvistrooper machined disk:

Here's a few more photos of a mic that I carefully pried the top from.View attachment 904986

How on Earth did you get the end off? All I'm doing is ruining a beautiful mic.

I can't get it to shift. I should just dremel the end off like thd9791 did but it's late here and I don't want to wake people up.

I've gone for pop riveting the case on.

I think I'm going to settle for hot gluing my dark mesh mic in for now until I can find some kind of nuclear laser to remove the light one.

I say be careful to keep from bending the mic element. The housing is going to get messed up no matter how carefull you are. I have those same beautiful channel lock/visegrip marks on both of mine.

I got mine off without any marking. Used an Exacto and went around the circumference wiggling side to side to break the glue and pry that top. Took awhile, but no damage.

There doesn't seem to be a gap big enough for a blade on mine.

I'm kind of torn on this. My accuracy head is telling me to persist and get the white element out ... but I think I prefer the look of the dark mesh.

Maybe try some Brake Cleaner or some Kroil? And let it sit for a day or two, see if that helps?

The one I've put together on the right I believe is how the Han ANH looked; with the sleeve, light mesh, and red center.

You've convinced me that it is red.

The NOS mic element I got off eBay a few weeks ago is neither red nor yellow. After pulling out the small, black rubber circle in the center, I just see plain metal.

Any idea what the red or yellow is? Just paint?

Either that, or some kind of glue. I've seen that same translucent red on the heads of some camera screws, like in the Eumigs.

You’re talking about “thread lock” which is either blue or red, with the color indicating it’s hold strength. The amount of force it will take to break the bonds of the material. Usually used on screws that have a tendscy to loosen under normal use. It’s not usually used as a permanent glue, just to strengthen the fit.

Strange...I also purchased one of these mic elements and mine has the red "crystal"
