ANH Han Solo Belt Disk

Its the one that looks like a bullet. IIRC it was a PITA to get the top off it. Just search Voice of music mic. There is also a guy on EBAY selling just the elements. Not listed under VM though. Might have been "harp VOM mic element"

Oh and there are a couple different types so look for that hole pattern.

Oh that thing! I remembered it as a speaker, not microphone. I never actually installed it because I wasn't sure the size was right, but it's still in one of my parts boxes.

Found it!

OOps, I thought you had used it....lol. I cant keep up...…

here is a little reference pic I put together when we were looking for it. How wide are the belts you guys are using?

Apparently the disc I shared the photo of is "roughly" 1 1/8" in diameter, which is 1/8" smaller than the one that's on my Todd's gunbelt.

The Todd's belt is 2" wide, btw.

1.14" or 29mm dia. and about .40" or 10.4mm thick. Here it is sitting on my stunt Vader belt which is 1-3/4"

I think that's it, I was pretty certain I could make out the line around the side on a screenshot. The ESB/ROTJ one looks like the same piece but just the top half.

If it is used on the ESB belt I would bet they opened up the holes a tad. It looks different. I have this pic and I think the top section is from ESB. I cant tell if its just lighting or if they opened up the holes a bit. I think in ROTJ they used the mic too so I don't see why they would have changed for ESB. This is IIRC because it was about 7 years ago I was last on this subject from what the pic dates are telling me.

edit. Ok I found this pic labelled ROTJ, it is where I was thinking they thinned the mic down because its thinner here. All the ANH pics I have show it to be thicker. ESB being the thickest.

i have one of these microphones now, but for the life of me, can't unscrew the front. I've tried freezing it, WD-40 and .. physical manipulation....

Got it apart! It is NOT threaded. There is some glue and it's press fit together. The INTERNALS are what's on the belt... didn't pick up on that until it popped open. Thought I had the wrong microphone.

I tried freezing it, boiling it, drilling through the logo, getting WD-40 into that tiny seam-line... and even tried covering it in gaffer tape to wrench it apart. Eventually I went at it with a dremel, slicing 1/32 beneath the seam-line because I thought I had to save the front ring! Slicing into it seemed to help it give way and it slid apart. The internal puck has the holes in it and the right sized lip around the edge. it is pretty thin metal, so I'm not surprised it got dented (costumes photo)

sorry for how big the image is..

did you make that sleeve? looks great - I was thinking some sort of threaded rivet with a slotted pan head from the front

That sleeve came with it. I think that's definitely what we see in the pictures creating that "chip" and also that step in the profile shots.
I bought another one and had to rip it out of the mic just like you did. (Very big pain)

The other one I bought was just the element by itself with the back cover.
I'm unsure of the purpose but it appears to just cover the contacts and the slot would let the wires out the side? It must have originally been for a style of mic we have not yet discovered.

Nice catch on the housing. Of coarse now I can see it in almost every picture. lol Also explains why it looks thinner in ROTJ . Looks like they didn't use the cup there. Better scoop them up before they are gone. I have been keeping up with these mics (mainly looking for other VOM SW related parts) for 6+ years and have never seen them offered with that cup. I have only seen them in bullet mics.
