ANH & ESB Vader - almost done! updated 6.10.09 -glove pics post #177

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Have you made some modifications with your ANH helmet since the last pics? Beside this they both look great.:thumbsup

Nope.
The dome might be resting on the faceplate slightly differently.
It is attached using the 3 tabs (no velcro) and every time you take it off and pop it back on, it is in a slightly different orientation. That's how it was on the film helmet too depending on the scene.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Maybe off topic, but how do you clean? I have my Vader suit on display in my game room and it gets dusty (like everything else in my house).

Dust is definitely a problem.
Every so often, I'll take the helmets off the displays and wipe them down with a soft damp cloth. Same with the armor and other hard parts, but they don't get as dusty as the helmet.
The capes collect a lot as well, so I use the dyson with the soft bristle attachment and it works great.
Kind of nasty though, because you don't realize just how dusty they are getting until you vacuum the capes. Then you can see that the capes are actually black, and not charcoal grey. :sick

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Well with the ROTJ, I guess you culd say its complete... if only you had the stunt helmet with lexan see through bits and a few wires sticking out of the one gloveless stump! :p

I have to pick on Gino out of jealousy every so often!

In all seriousness, the gloves are looking spot on! (y)thumbsup

I don't know if you've ever tried this, but I take my cape and robe and
stick them in the dryer with "NO HEAT" and as it's tumbeling it loosens the
dust and then it gets blown out the dryer vent.. I have major Allergy problems
so trust me, I've never had any issues with dust on my cape using this method
If your worried about it wrinkeling, don't. As long as it's moving you shouldn't
get wrinkles, but make sure you take it out as soon as the dryer stops
or else ;)
Give it a shot next time.. It saves me from having to dose every time I clean

The only down side is you have to take stuff apart to do it, but I really only
clean the cape when I can physically see the dust collecting..............

That sounds awfully dangerous. I don't think it would be good for them to get all tangled up in the dryer. :confused

I only need to vacuum them every few months.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Actually I've never had a problem with it tangeling.. They pretty much look
the same as before I threw them in less the dust :) if your dryer is getting
old and it tends to pull at your clothes then I wouldn't recommend it..

So I was wondering? Do you ever have the Leather suit cleaned or do you
just wipe that down as well?

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

I just wipe it down.
The leather suit is mostly hidden from dust settling though except for when the arms are bent forward, then it tends to collect on the forearms just a little.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

I would have to have them in a display case, dust is a pain in the ass.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

I wish I had enough room to put them all in display cases.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Thank Chris.

I especially like this shot.
It makes me think that if Lucas would have decided to make the TV series about Vader hunting down the remaining Jedi instead of whatever nonsense it's going to be about, this is how I imagine Vader to look in a pre-production costume test, or promo (in my fanboy dream come true).
That's what we REALLY wanted the prequels to be about. The Jedi holocaust.
Vader (wearing the ANH costume) hunting down the remaining Jedi and facing off with them one at a time.
Similar to how it was handled in the movie Highlander.
You listening George??
No? Oh well. :lol

Well, I'm not sure which will happen first, but I'm going to be going full force on taking the emperor display as well as the yoda to the finish.
There are a number of other characters going on at any one time and I bounce around a lot, but those are the ones who will most likely get finished off next.

As soon as it warms up here, I'll be able to add the ROTJ Vader to that list after I can paint the helmet. I just couldn't get it done last fall before it got too cold.

After (or maybe even during) I'm going to be able to show some stuff I've never been able to show before. I'd say, but it would ruin the surprise.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

You really need a giant piece of plexi to put them behind. Kinda put em on a wall and box them in with a door on the side or behind to get in to adjust or move or whatever...

Oh, and we already know your building your own accurate 1:1 deathstar so the secret is out anyway. :lol

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Deathstars are bad investments I hear.

A couple years ago, I looked into having some custom full size display cases made for all my mannequins. I had a pretty cool design that was sleek, simple, and modular so you could add to it. Wasn't that expensive considering.

The problem is space. I have 11 1:1 mannequins in progress (including yoda) and there just is not enough room to display them without being too crowded for my liking.
Display cases would make it impossible to even fit them all into their current room.
I'm looking to move in a year or so and you can bet that one of the criteria I'm going to be shooting for is adequate display space. Maybe then I'll be able to revisit my display case concept.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

What a difference a pair of gloves makes!

So you're saying that Vader is like the Kurgan? Kind of a disturbing thought there....

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Not necessarily like the Kurgan per se.
Just that Vader on a weekly or bi-weekly basis would encounter and confront a Jedi that he was drawn to through the force (similar to highlander) and take them out. You know, how he "hunted down and destroyed the Jedi knights".
Jedi character arcs could last several episodes or longer, but in the end we know what would eventually happen to them.

Doesn't mean that Vader wouldn't get tag teamed, or beat up a bit along the way.

Besides, that's what we really wanted to see out of the PT anyway.

Ok, stepping down off the fanboy soap box.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

I wish they had more of Vader in EP3 in his ANH suit , Not the one they had on him. It looks so out of place.

Just Sick! They are AWESOME! As always Gino I'm jealous and happy for you at the same time! They look incredible. I love the Force choke pose on your ANH but the Fist is how I will be doing my ESB Vader I think. Gives character. I love having not doing anyhting too, just like the shot in the Carb. Chamber. Get rid of everything except Maul and Vader, on second thought give me your Vaders and keep the rest! :love

P.S. Do not get me started on the prequels or anything else GL will do for SW anymore! GARBAGE. Nuff Ranting:cry:angry!
