ANH Cape Trim

Hi, am pretty certain I know the answer to this but wanted to double check. The ANH cape does NOT have a satin trim at the bottom right?

Sorry, I am sure this is posted somewhere but it is hard to find the information for various reasons :rolleyes

If you are referring to Vader's cape, you are correct.

Actually all three film versions of capes have it, but it is not trim. It is the lining bagging out at the bottom.

You are correct. Only ESB had the trim and that is up to debate. Some believe it was just the satin lining extending below the wool, others think it was trimmed with satin or leather..:confused

(In my most non-condescending tone), I'm 100% certain that it is the lining and also that it is that way in all 3 OT movies. Pics proving this are readily available.

I have to agree with this one. Pics of Vader walking DO show a 'trim' at the bottom, but it is likely the inner lining showing through as the cape flares out. I've got a pic or two of the same effect on my personal cape when I'm wearing it in parades, and my wife (Who made the cape) confirming the effect.

That said, while a trim in the cape is likely not screen accurate, if you can line with something durable, it may hold up better under the abuse of trooping.

I always believed it was just the satin lining as well. But that was just me..:unsure

Thank everyone, that's pretty much what I thought when I looked at reference photos (on DarthKhant's site) - that the lining just hangs down a bit at times.

I'm curious as to where the lining supposedly hangs down in ANH? Which scenes?

All OT Capes, no bottom trim.........satin-esque lining only.

If you know just a bit about fabrics, the stretchability of the wool versus the satin type fabrics are quite different......the inner lining starts sagging with wear and it will "appear" below the bottom hem of the wool. That is all that's happening with the OT capes.

It's not meant to happen at all, it's just a nifty little accident.
