And now the winners of the "2009 $1. Store lightsaber contest."

what did everyone do with the left over items? Throw them away? Keep them for other things? Just curious. Not sure what to do with mine.

I saved all the bits(I save everything). You never know when you might need a single checker or $1 book light.

So true. I can't tell you the number of times I've gone to play a game of checkers, and was missing just one, so and extra one, or two, doesn't hurt. :) And, I have so many of those darn book lights lying around I'm set for life. :)

You know if your dollar tree has those kind of book lights that clip on, then unfold, up and out, when you push a button on the side. Those are the kind they modified to make a prop for V for vendetta. (can't beat a $1. prop. :) )

Oh, and I saw the kind of note books that they modified for the "LOST" dharma initiative books (the ones with the back and white pattern on the cover), at the dollar tree the other day. :)

As I've said before I always load up on LED lights. It's one of the cheapest ways I've found to get batteries, and White LEDs. all for one low price. (I even use the clip of the lights, as a chip clip, so very little goes to waste. :) )

If your a Farscape fan you could pick up red, and/or blue glow sticks, like those used for Scorpies cooling rods there. I've also seen the yellow glow sticks used on Stargate Atlantis. :) (oh, and in oceans 11.)

There was a member here that sawed together a few Dollar tree scarves ,to make a Tom Back-esk Doctor who scarf.

I have seen the black rubber gloves just like they used for the screen used stormtrooper costumes at the Dollar tree from time, to time.

And for paper props, they have a GREAT new inkjet photo paper they started caring. (use the new stuff in the red/yellow packaging, not the AWFUL old stuff in the blue packaging.) I took a change and tried the new stuff out, and I love it.

But hey, I don't need to tell you guys (and gals) you all managed to find stuff at the Dollar tree that I never even thought of using.

Well, rats-- I managed to miss the voting as well as the contest itself. (It's been a ferociously busy two weeks!) There's a lot of brilliant work here!

I hope everyone who entered will post tutorials on how they made their sabers, as well as a list of the materials they used from the Dollar stores. :D

According to FedEx, the IG-88 has arrived with winner #4. Congrats, and enjoy your giant droid head!

Sure enough, it showed up this afternoon. I can't wait to start working on it but I need to finish(start) my secret Santa project first.
If anyone is thinking about getting the IG-88, go for it. The detail is really amazing. The original was welded in sections and this cast has perfect reproduction of the welds, a flawless row of dimes. The small detail is great.
