American Pickers and Captain Pike - TOS

Gone but not forgotten.
So being held up in a hotel room cross patching things from multiple computers then hurting your ankle moving out of the way of a giant forklift... You find yourself with time to watch tv - and my shows of choice nowadays are Pawn Stars and American Pickers.

For those not familiar with American Pickers - it's two guys traveling the country looking for old stuff that they can make money on - signs, cars, bicycles - whatever. Anyhow, in this last week's episode - they visited a junkyard and came across this sweatbox just sitting in the debris field. As soon as I saw this thing I was like - waitaminute.... then two people watching with me both chimed in and voiced what I was thinking - is that Captain Pike's preservation box!!?? here are some pics - these things were used to lose weight and were sold from the 50's to the early seventies with different models to choose from - which, if this is the found object used to create Pike's infamous black box, it would have to have been modified or a different model - sure is close though.

Cool find. It would have to be a different model though, Pike's shoulders protruded trough the top. Did they mention Pike when they found it?

Seems like it would have been cheaper just to make this... although probably basing it on the sweat box.

I was thinking that too - but you have to remember, Parmount had and has a gym on lot. the machines in these work out rooms are constantly replaced - could it be that at one time they had these sweat boxes for the star who needed to lose a few pounds to be screen ready - even if it was just water weight. Maybe they trashed one of these and the prop guys picked her up.

And no - they didn't mention Pike when they found it - these guys are more gear heads than nerds.
