When I was in highschool, all of my buddies played guitar. I bought one, got some second hand sheet music and taught myself to read and play. I never learned to play by ear, just read and repeat which meant nothing retained. I learn most things with ease but this was terrible hard and I forgot all within a few years. One short riff stuck and a friend told me I had memorized "Peter Gunn". I am terrible with names, bands, songs, band members, writers, albums, all like water through a drain, so I had no idea who wrote it. Seeing this post and digging in because of the Peter Gunn reference, wow, 35 years of not knowing.... I didn't even know I needed to know til he was already past. I will be in this rabbit hole for a long while, I predict.
