Am I the only oddball around here?

I know what you mean.. I found this site almost by accident but can't believe how huge it seems.... I agree it seems like it's 50% Iron Man stuff...Mark this..Mark that...Lots of Judge Dredd helmets LOL but there are some really inspiring things scattered everywhere also. I am really into the "Maker" movement and this site seems to embody a lot of the DIY spirit I seek out everywhere. I think even though lots of people make the same stuff there is also alot of cross polination of observing "how to" skills that can lead to you creating your own unique things, thats how I am using it. Good luck on your projects!

Like everyone else seems to be saying, I to would prefer some sub sections, marvel, SW, DC to help you find stuff you are more interested in instead of the many many iron man builds, dont get me wrong , I like a good build but when half the threads on the page has iron man in the title its gets a bit arduous.
Far as being odd balls, I highly disagree, you like what you like, simple. Im sure there are enough people who would label the people on this website as odd balls, don't encourage that idea.
This is a great and helpful community of people and im happy I stumbled upon the site by accident.

Heck I'm currently working on a n Ezio costume from a 4 year old game... lol

Nobody wants to come look at it because its not the latest, hotest thing...

But I love doing it so I keep moving forward... slowly but surely...

I wonder if there's a dichotomy between hobbyists and people looking for/wanting to garner commissions work? I, for one, am nowhere near good enough (I think) to do the latter, but I have been asked for things here and there, which I usually swap for things that I want... That works well enough for me, but might be unacceptable or frustrating for more advanced makers. Bottom line is like the old slogan "Keep Calm and Build On!"

Heck, Gatineau isn't that bad lol... and I'm english/french bilingual... lol PLEASE come see my costume! hehehe... I would settle for looking at it in the forums and posting your thoughts and I think that's all that Sandman wanted too... just some sort of interest... this forum moves so fast though that your items and WIPs are on page 3 in less that 15 minutes after you post... so unless you post at the right time to get people interested, you will be swept up in the flow...

Someone mentioned before that they probably won't because it would look like they are encouraging people to make the stuff and sell it behind the companies backs. Makes sense but sucks all the same.

Yeah I know, I just can't bring myself to do the same stuff everyone else is doing. I like the popular stuff too, but if I'm not having fun making it, then it will most likely come out like crap. That's why I stick to my own interests and hope it draws people in lol.

I totally feel you on this. That's why i'm a member of atleast several different forums. The Hunters Lair, RPF, Cosplay...etc

I always encourage my 3 boys to think outside the box when we start a suit/costume build.

My oldest was Majin Buu when he was 4yrs old...that was 8 years ago...we walked through the mall on halloween and the reception was outstanding.

When he was 9 we made him the Juggernaut. Again the reception was awesome

Popular trends tend to have their run in all these forums. Most people dont have the forward thinking when it comes to making or building a suit because they are a newbie at it and the intimidation level is high...once they get into it they see what they can do and then try to expand on ideas and test their own limitations.

You do awesome stuff that people stop and say..."wow never thought about building that"...

Ok, not to keep harping on this, but could we perhaps at least make the suggestion of making major categories like props based on "games" "movies" "tv shows" "animated" "misc"?

That wouldn't advertise for them or take away from the manufacturers, but at least I wouldn't go into the movies section as often if I wanted to avoid the Iron Man Frenzy...

I agree with you to an extent. I've posted some stuff here that gets little to no response. I just figure no one else cares about it as much as I do, but I also think I'm not as taented as other people on here, so some of my stuff isn't as pretty to look at. Some stuff does get a decent response. Just wait until you post something and then get a less than stellar response that makes you think, "Why did I even post that?"

ide rather have a less than stellar response than no response at all. i made a thread a few days ago, and it felt like shouting in the wind.... it got about 100 views but no replies, i bumped it with some more info and a question or two hoping to get some feedback, and got nothing but crickets....it sucks

Well to clear something up, I'm not AGAINST Iron Man builds... I love iron man... but it is the flavor of the season that is really crowding up the boards... Thats the only reason I mentioned it... in the future, it might be something different that takes up the first 3 pages of the board...

The from page of the Replica Costume section for example: I post something, and if no one posts back in 30 minutes, I'm on page 2... its super fast paced... that is good to have a really active forum... but when I am looking only for game oriented costumes, and the first 5 pages of the Costumes section is Iron Man, it's hard to browse for game related content...
