Alter Ego Golden Age Flash helmet

So, I gots me some enthusiasm. In this case, it's probably bordering more on "an obsession" or "a fetish," though, at this point. See, I love helmets. Football helmets, motorcycle helmets, SWAT gear helmets. Chinese jet fighter helmets, French firefighter helmets, spacesuit helmets. Not to mention all the comic book-inspired helmets I love for their cool design, like Doctor Fate's lid, or The Rocketeer's Art Deco crash bucket.

A wizard with the clay sculpt, and an artist pulling soft plastic around a vacuform machine, John sure can create an excellent prop or piece of costuming. I scored one of his Golden Age Flash helmets, and with a trim of the plastic and a few coats of paint straight from the rattle-can, I had another museum piece for my helmet collection:

Straight out of the box.

A little trimming of the extra bits, and some light filing and sanding.

A quick coat of white primer on everything.

Gold for the wings...

...and silver for the lid...

...and it's ready to display...

...until it's time for a little crime-fighting.

Thanks very much, John. I couldn't be happier.

That looks great. I love cool helmetsas well. Does he still offer the helmet somewhere?

Hi,

What paint did you use for the Gold wings and above all for the silver helmet ? It looks amazing, even more under spotlights....

Thanks
FRED

Thanks for the very kind words, Larry... glad I could help. You did a great job on that, looks fantastic! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Well, that's awfully nice of you to say, but it's just regular RUST-O-LEUM Bright Coat Metallic Finish paints from the spray can, with a careful application. The wings got four coats and the helmet got five to even out the finish, and I ended up giving it a rub of Turtle Wax after Darth Veach reminded me about making sure the paint finish had time to de-gas.

But it's nothing *I* did... it's all John's excellent sculpt and pull on the vacuform machine. The plastic, really, no-kidding, is an even thickness all around and just a stellar piece of work. I just did a small amount of prep and paint. It's all John, and I give him a tip o' the hat. Just fine, fine work on his part. I couldn't be happier to have this helmet in my collection.

The helmet looks great. John, I'm actually looking for one of these and sent you an email.
I saw a helmet at the flea market that would work really well, but sadly it was a child's toy and way too small. :(

Hey I know this thread is a little old but hopefully somebody will see this and help me out. I'm new to cosplay and am attempting to be jay garrick. I really love this helmet and I was hoping somebody would be able to tell me where I could get the plastic pieces used in this thread
