All things Tron Legacy

I was really hoping to see "the fastest thing on the grid" Kevin's original light cycle go to battle against the new light cycles. Would have been cool to see a return of the master control program as well. CLU had some major uncanny valley action going on, but it wasn't so terrible that it ruined the movie. Overall I thought it was a really enjoyable flick. Daft Punk did an amazing job on the score!

Re: All things Tron Legacy - Discussion

Did anyone else who saw it in 3D actually forget it was 3D? I loved this film, but I was watching the movie so intently that I actually forgot I had the glasses on and rather I just saw it without the 3D, but in IMAX for the larger screen and sound.

Well, I'd rather the 3D be integrated so well that I (almost) forget it's in 3D. Post-production 3D effects looks SOOOO bad to me, and I hate the jarring, in-your-face effects and diorama-like cardboard cutout perspective. I really think Tron Legacy had the best and most natural 3D effects (IMO, it was better than Avatar), and that's probably because the grid is so alien/artificial that your eyes/brain couldn't instinctively tell you that the 3D was "fake".

I agree, save for one thing.

They kept shoving grappling hooks through things in that "Look! It's 3D!" sorta way. Pretty distracting IMO.

Thanks to YenChih Lin's posted link in the TRON Legacy question thread, I think it's safe to say that Kevin Flynn is gone, or he if he's not gone, he won't be able to go into the real world as long as Quorra is walking around.

But I actually think Kevin Flynn being gone is a good thing for the next film, even though him being gone is a sad thing. The reason why its good is because the ending of "Legacy" and Sam being given Kevin Flynn's disc is pretty much him passing on the baton, the father finally giving his son a chance to become a man. And with Sam Flynn finally stepping up to take control of Encom, he has finally embraced his father's legacy (hence the title, get it?) and is most likely going to blaze a new trail with Encom like his father did when he got control of Encom in 1982. But losing good ol' Kevin Flynn opens the door for a lot of possibilities and new allies being added to the mix. As I've said before in another post, I'm awfully tempted to start a "Jet Lives" campaign to see if the filmmaker's can include Jethro "Jet" Bradley from the "Tron 2.0" video game in a sequel to "Tron Legacy" (especially since they borrowed a lot of concepts, as I've pointed out before, from the game. And hey, Jet is a video game programmer, so maybe his skills can be just as useful inside the Grid as on the outside. And since it's clearly been stated that Alan's been sort of a "father figure" to Sam after Flynn disappeared, it'd make sense that Sam and Jet would be practically "close-as-brothers" friends).

Of course, I could be wrong about the fact we have lost Kevin Flynn. But if he turned up in the next one alive and well, then the action of sacrificing himself to stop CLU and saving his son would have completely lost its meaning. But also the idea of having another good guy to help Sam, Quorra and TRON could or could not be a bad idea. So, I accept that I could very well be wrong in my interpretation of the info.

Everthing is possible on the Grid. I don't know, something says to me, that Jeff had too much fun to quite Tron, maybe....

I loved Castor. Him just hamming up the camera acting like David Bowie with his kickass cane and manic energy. And man, Gem is the hottest actress I've seen in a long while. She's like the Seven of Nine for Tron hahaha XD

Something funny to mention: I've seen the "release" and in the flashback of Flynn with the track "Adagio for Tron", I've got the feeling something wasn't quite right. When I looked at the old production pics of Bruce and Jeff, their height differed. Bruce is much taller than Jeff, but Anis Cheufra the body double for Rinzler/Tron is smaller compared to the Jeff body double! Anis is also much muscular than Bruce, he was leaner then.

Tron Legacy PLUSHIE anyone? thought you guys and gals might find this cute. My wife came up with the idea and I whipped it out for her. (yes I did word it that way on purpose.:lol)

I noticed he said to Quorra, "I want you to do me a favor" or something, but we never heard what that was.

Was it to carry a copy of his file?

I mean, they are computer programs. Backup your files people. That always annoyed me in Star Trek Voyager. "We lost the Doctor! Again!" He's a program! Use the backup copy!!

I think the favor was to swap the ID Discs, so that way Flynn could distract CLU long enough to allow Sam and Quorra to get out the Grid (especially since he probably knew that Quorra would make it out using his Disc).

If you include Ma3a AND Mercury, do it.

Well, I can say that Ma3a can be involved (as for the T:L version of events, maybe Jet helped his mother, Lora, create and develop Ma3a. And since Lora is alive and well, as we discover in the Encom Press Conference, Part 1 and Part 2, maybe she somehow figured out how to make a digital copy of her personality and implemented it into Ma3a). As for Mercury, that'd be way too many good guys and not enough bad guys, but if someone can make a good argument as to why she would be involved (and if they can get Rebecca Romijn to play the character), then I would champion for her to be involved too.

As crazy as it sounds, I sort of did a small fan "ficlet" called "Loss Track of Time" set after the events of "Tron Legacy" and involves a way of introducing Jet into the fold of things (though the ficlet doesn't have much happening, but it leaves open room for the possibility of including him).

Wow, Tron 2.0 fans spotted... Lemme join the fun. ^_^

Let's pretend Legacy director didn't said that Tron 2.0 was non-canon while he took most of the story to adapt it into his movie ( *cough* ).

Jet and Sam are roughly the same age. Alan could totally have a child, and if Lora is still here, then Ma3a and the laser could totally be here as well ( since, at least, that Flynn used that techology while being head of Encom ). As for the villains, well, aren't Dillinger and fCon enough ? Like, Dillinger Jr trying to eat Encom from the back, while he's all nice in the front ?
Now, we got the Mercury / Quorra problem, because they have roughly the same role... I dunno, let's forget her ? Bye bye sexiness, let's get sexiness and bad-ass at the same time ? :p

Honestly, it could be a nice twist to make Sam and Quorra have a baby in a subplot / cameo, and use Jet and Mercury as leads. To, finally, use the four of them in the third Legaçy movie...

Just my silly two cents. :)

P.S. : Since it would not be Flynn's old but evolved server, but another technology, maybe we could get the electronic and circuitry suits back as well... :p

This movie is really sticking to me hard!

I swear I've been listening to the score like every day on my drives to work and some when I'm working from home.

The film was just all kinds of awesome for me. Yeah I have gripes about some of the CG-looking Flynn parts (while there's others that were scary very well done). I can't put my finger on what I just flipping love about the movie. I did enjoy the first one quite a bit when I was younger, but not like uber fandom from it. This latest chapter was just really sweet.

Loved the 80's stuff in the beginning visiting the old arcade (with some killer Journey and Eurythmics music in the background pumping) revsit. The whole Tron world was very cool. So well tastefully updated and no overdone. It was a great blend of the old and new and didn't at all kick Tron 1 in the face to disgrace it.

It was very different of an experience for me. The effects weren't too much in your face like some movies love to show off. The cycles were beautifully done without showing off every detail in the effects in how they were done. Everything was just there and your eyes had to take it in quickly. I like that they used it as a tool to help move the story instead of showing long effects shots just to show it off.

Oh well I guess I'm just rambling. Everything from the visuals, sound, music, characters and not-too-complicated-story was cool and a fun ride all around. I REALLY am looking forward to seeing what they do for another sequel.

Not bad, but for the post, you've only confirmed what I said about having Jet being involved and the possibility of Ma3a being there, and the conflict of including Mercury into the story.
