Aliens 2 (Blomkamp) - reveal of updated Pulse Rifle

I'd agree, except all of the "crap" added to it actually serves a purpose and would greatly benefit whoever wielded the rifle.
I agree, all of that stuff would improve the effectiveness, and for me does add to the cool factor-except that muzzle break, that part's got me kind of "meh"

I personally dont know what to make of it. I like the fact the attachments make it more functional, but at the same time those attachments dont really seem to follow the style of the original gun. They look more like modern day attachments added on to it.

I don't the mind changes to the gun, though I do prefer the original SPAS slide. I do like the addition of the red dot. The part I am having an issue right now with in the title.

ALIEN 2

Really? How original.

There's no title yet, I just called it Aliens 2 because it's meant to be a direct sequel to Aliens (and ignores Alien 3)

Sorry guys , just don't get the reality of the new pulse ..:(...why would anyone want to convert a 22 century technology ( in the movie ) timeline with old 20th century parts for a M41-A pulse rifle :facepalm , it just doesn't make sense to regress technology , did they just quit making parts for a pulse rifle in the future , and had to resort to vintage parts for the PR ,:p ;) doesn't seem reasonable at all to me , if the PR is to be upgraded , then It would have been more believable with a motion tracker built onto the PR , then all these 2015 gun parts.....:p:D

Also, don't be real surprised if the pulse rifles are only on a weapons rack in the background and the CM's are using a new weapon that is entirely of NB's design, and looks like something Aaron Beck drew. Then in the third act Hicks picks one up and says something about his old friend before going off with Ripley.

That would be pretty awesome...

Yeah , but as Hudson said in the film Aliens ....we have state of the art weaponry , hard to see this PR evolve with the AR style parts put on , hopefully they wont do that....

It's just a one off concept to get an idea of things they could do - it's not the final production design. Think of it as 3 dimensional concept art as opposed to the finished prop that will appear in the film.

Except not really... a red dot sightI would think would be more than a little outdated in an age that has smart gun tracking technology, and a laser serves NO purpose other than to "look cool". Weaver rails serve very little purpose, other than to let you bolt on the stuff we've already discussed.

I don't mind the new barrel... that's OK. But the rest is just everyday stuff we see NOW... which doesn't have a place in a future that is 165 years from now and most of their tech doesn't resemble ours.

There is no way this is appearing in the new movie. Its just not. This really is just a snow wolf rifle isn't it? You know, with a few bits added on the side... It's not motion picture stuff... And if it was going to be, hopefully the powers that be will think again.

Except it really would benefit the user.:lol If you understand how military weaponry works you'd know that every piece of tech on that gun serves an important purpose.
As for the sight being something we see now, rewatch Aliens, you will see a lot of weapons that are outdated by today's standards, (A rack of M16s, an Ithaca 37) so I don't really see how having a red dot sight would be any worse.

If you understand how military weaponry works.

Condescention... ALWAYS a great way to start a conversation. :rolleyes

As far as not seeing how adding a red dot could be any worse... I recon that's down to aesthetics... which is what this whole thing is about in the first place. In the established canon we didn't see a bunch of extra greeblies tacked onto the Pulse rifle. So the thought here is that the add ons now don't fit with the aesthetic established in the canon thus far. It isn't a debate over whether or not a red dot sight is "useful" or not (although i question *how* useful it really would be considering the pulse rifles were shown to be a shoot-from-the-hip weapon, always firing automatically. It's not like the Marines were lining up and taking carefully aimed shots) the debate here is about the aesthetics of the sight on the pulse rifle.

I have to agree....the concept is , they didnt use them on the PR then , why in the world would they use them further in the furture now ??? It is a logical assumption these would deem useless at some point for the weapondry now in Aliens 5 .....:D

As I stated in the thread in the entertainment section, Blomkamp knows guns. He's an airsoft player, he knows weapons well enough to know Magpul and makes notes about how their products look for the designers.

Until I see something refuting it in a concept piece or actual footage, I still think this is his personally owned airsoft gun.

In Elysium Blomkamp made a joke about an old gun (the AK47) with new tech zip tied into it. He designed the mismatched tech to function as part of the story. I doubt very seriously that he's going to miss a chance to create/design/figure out a cool new sight for the pulse rifle that looks good and makes sense visually for the time frame.

It makes a lot more sense to me that he would have all that stuff on his airsoft gun.

For all we know, Ripley and Hicks crash on some backwards, long abandoned colony that only has the cheapest, hand-me-down, bottom-of-the-barrel weapons left from before the Company left them all to die years ago.
