Re: Aliens Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

Looks very close to the Sideshow Dallas I have.

But much larger.
And more detail:love

Will the interior lights work via a switch inside the helmet or out?
Are you planning on having the interior lights powered by the same source as the exterior light?

Re: Aliens Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

There is a large knob on the outside of the helmet that turned on the lights. The plan is to have that as the mail source for the lights. 1 click the inner lights come on. 2nd click the lamp comes on. 3rd click off.
Well.. that is the plan at this point. So yes, one source of power.

In the helmet I do for the complete costume there will be a switch to turn on the fans. But until we install all the electrics that is yet to be determined as how it is going to work.

One of the most exciting and impressive projects I've seen on this or any board. Lots of people come up with great projects; you guys are actually realizing this. Absolutely fantastic! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

WOOHOO! That's looking amazing! Man, I just love this!

If you guys need any graphics for the back-pack or any other part, I'd be happy to help. I already have most of the markings done and ready to be re-sized.

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

What I never could figure out, is why our own NASA people never took a serious look at some of the remarkable designs of this, and other space suits for functionability, and fit.

I personally believe that if NASA put half as much thought into the designs for their space suits as the folks who design the various Sci-Fi worlds, we'd have already had a base on the moon, and Mars by now.

Seriously, when I look at what this thread is about, I'm completely blown away by the sheer brilliance of the work. I am extremely impressed by this piece.

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

I'm a bit of a space suit buff myself. The ALIEN suit was designed, in part, by the artist Moebius... and one of the influences WAS the Apollo moon suit! :lol

That and Samurai armor.

The ALIEN suit is fairly "realistic" in that it at least looks bulky, and looks like it has air tanks. All too many movie spacesuits seem to lack a "practical" look to them.

I thought Geiger did everything on that movie as far as designs went?

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

Nope! HR Giger designed only the non-human elements: the Derelict ship interior and exterior (with Space Jockey), the surface of LV-426, and the three stages of the Alien creature's development.

The human technology, including the spaceship Nostromo, was largely designed by Ron Cobb. Other artists contributed as well.

The idea of having a surrealist artist design the creature was the master stroke in this case... Giger's work is really nightmarish and "out there" ensuring that the non-human stuff looked REALLY different and, frankly, "alien".

For fans of Giger's work in the film, check out the book GIGER'S ALIEN, which documents his paintings and sculptures done specifically for the movie.

His earlier art book NECRONOMICON was actually what got him the job. :lol

The old Heavy Metal "BOOK of ALIEN" was reissued a few years ago, it contains a lot of great artwork and sketches from all the designers.

And of course the huge DVD set "ALIEN QUADRILOGY" contains a whole archive of artwork and documentaries on the making of the film. :thumbsup

And of course don't forget, next year is the thirtieth anniversary of the film! :D
