Alien: Earth TV Series

The Alien universe isn't my area of expertise but wouldn't having a Xenomorph on Earth in a prequel mess up the timeline with respect to the first film's encounter with the Alien?

Yes, but that ship sailed with Romulus. It's set between 1 and 2, and the whole premise of 2 is that the corp doesn't have their hands on aliens yet (burke was there to try and capture a specimen while the marines checked in on the colony) ; but romulus has a whole space station full of face huggers that the corp just forgot they had laying around decades before Ripley ever showed back up.

Alien is best viewed as a "concept" that a new director gets to take a crack at every decade. If you're going to look at them as an interwoven continuity, it's just a clunky mess now. If you're going to look at them as a bunch of separate horror, action, and thriller/suspense films that play with a central villains, then you can at least take each movie on its own merit.

The show may be fine and enjoyable. the parts of the books/comics where xenos make it to earth are entertaining, and added some fun new aspects to the xeno threat that had been unknown before.

That's a good way of looking at it. A soft reboot every time rather than direct continuity.

I agree with the idea that a movie every now and then is more than acceptable and while Romulus is a dumpster fire of rehashed ideas from all the other movies, I'm glad it wasn't a 8 Season show.

Making TV shows from the original films never seems to have the same value once fleshed out and produced. Star Wars and LOTR are prime examples of how to mismanage IP into serial TV. Mando is an exception but even that ran of the rails.

Fair, but I do think there are exceptions. Ash vs. Evil Dead was really quite good, IMO.

I just caught up with series 2 of Rings of Power and thought it was excellent. Given they are filling in the gaps based on what are essentially appendices and an incomplete area of Tolkien's work I thought it was pretty solid.

I'm a bit wary of the Alien on Earth idea. I remember seeing the concept art posted by Neill Blomkamp and it didn't excite me that much. I will say that a few of his Oats Studio projects were really good though. The stories on some were a bit too open. But I did save some like Zygote. Which reminded me of that Alien project and something else.

I have thought that huge lunar caves would be a good location…maybe with other insectoid species having cadavers all over.

This looks to be essentially a reboot of the franchise as they seem to be establishing the Aliens arriving on Earth via this container/research vessel that crashes, which predates the first Alien film in the timeline.

I'm not a dyed in the wool fan of the franchise and this trailer didn't absolutely blow me away. But I might give this series a look after a few episodes have been released.
Noah Hawley has a good track record for well made television shows so I will give it a look.

I believe the intention of the series is not to be a reboot, but to establish why the Company sent the Nostromo to that particular location.

Aliens might be on Earth before, but that doesn't mean that's public knowledge.

I'm not so sure, a ship crashing into a large city (Prodigy City), as shown in the trailer, is a pretty public event.
Granted they could cover up the contents of the ship, but the trailer seems to show a lot of those quite dangerous specimens onboard get loose.

I think it was a mistake to make this a prequel, it muddies the waters too much and would have made sense to set this after the previous 4 original films.
Everything else could have stayed the same, just don't make it a prequel.

I thought you had seen it as it was posted above.

I'm sure they will try and write in some kind of work around to justify it being a prequel but at the moment I still think a prequel is a bad move.

Anyone notice the new Kriss Vector based Pulse rifles? And the guy in the back with an OG Pulse Rifle. Yes it takes place 59 years before 'Aliens' but it's not uncommon for military rifles to be in service 50, 60 years or more. Look at the M-16, AK-47 etc.
