Alien: Earth TV Series

Could be interesting but I am not going to reactivate my subscription to Hulu for it- that will happen if/when 'The Orville' returns

I’m glad they are making this series.

There is so much more that needs to be said about the Aliens who kill humans, for no apparent reason, and the humans who make poor decisions when they encounter them.

By no means did the movie series say enough on that topic.

It is probably the most formulaic of the sci-fi film franchises.
Rag tag team encounter an alien, commence cat and mouse game in dark corridors of a space ship/station whilst making terrible decisions, people die, Alien escapes/gets killed.
Next film, repeat.

100% on-point, there.

Don’t forget to include:
- The evil corporation.
- The evil android
- The lone survivor

ALIENS after all was basically ALIEN by turning a horror movie into an action movie and replacing the space truckers with marines and the cat with a girl and instead of one Alien, a whole hive of them
Same basic plot pattern. Even the cut scene of the colonist discovering the ship mirrors the initial contact

Nobody seems to complain about it

of course when you simplify things too much they sound bad

To me the original Alien film was a haunted house horror story with the ship being a dark mostly empty house and the Alien substituting for the Ghost/Evil Thing.
Aliens was more of a war film with a band of brothers in active combat against an enemy which did not play by the expected rules.
Alien 3 & 4 did not seem to be able to decide what kind of movie they were so they took a bunch of stuff and tossed it together

Just my opinion...

Anyone notice the new Kriss Vector based Pulse rifles? And the guy in the back with an OG Pulse Rifle. Yes it takes place 59 years before 'Aliens' but it's not uncommon for military rifles to be in service 50, 60 years or more. Look at the M-16, AK-47 etc.
Being a little pedantic here, but the AK-47 was retired decades ago. The Soviets retired them and adopted the AKM, which was really just an improved AK-47. The AKM gave way to the AK-74, which was an AK chambered in 5.45mm. And from what I understand, the 74 was retired years ago, and Russia now fields the AK100 or something like that. But the M16 still sees some use in the A4 form, mainly by the Marine Corps and the M4 is basically a carbine version of the M16.

Yeah, all AK's are variants of the 47. And it was not "retired". There are at least 8 countries that still issue the stock standard AK47, including Russia. And since over 100 million were produced, one variant or another are still in use all over the world. Same with the M-16/AR-15 platform. There are dozens of variations. So it makes sense in the Alien universe that some iteration of the Pulse Rifle was in use before 'Alien'.

I'm glad they corrected the line about collecting lifeforms from the four corners of the universe as was the case in the first trailer. It came across as poorly thought out given we know there is no warp or wormhole technology in the Alien Universe.

I think there is some sort of interstellar drive in the Alien Universe- otherwise it would take far too long to even visit neighboring stars to be practical. IIRC in the Alien Novel by Alen Dean Foster it is mentioned that the Hypersleep pods are used since the drive does cause an issue with time dilation

Even interstellar drive wouldn't get you to the "four corners of the universe" and back to Earth in the time they want to convey.

A minor quibble, but I'm glad they changed the line to something more logical to the in universe lore and technology.

I stopped caring about Alien after Aliens. I just don't care about the franchise at all anymore.

Alien and Aliens are the only two that count for the most part. I give Prometheus a bit of a break. But so far:

I watched Alien 3 only once. I tried the director's cut a few years ago but couldn't make it halfway though.

I watched Alien 4 only once as well. I tried watching a few parts when it was on TV but it was just bad.

I thought Prometheus was a good B movie except for the some stuff at the end and the whole Black Goo that does whatever the writers want it to do.

I hated Alien Covenant as it made the main character of Prometheus stupid. Plus, it made many other basic mistakes that the guy who made Alien and Blade Runner should know better. I only like the ship scene in the beginning which I think I mentioned around here with the whole hysterical white woman.

I still haven't seen the new movie yet. Probably in October I'll check it out.
