Alien Covenant had a lot of moments that the crew seemed ill trained or ill equipped to deal with the threats they faced when they landed on a planet with an earth type atmosphere. The crew landed and began to explore the planet without testing for toxins or infections. One would guess that any world not our native would have a biosphere unknown to our bodies. But the landing party just opened the door to the lander and began a walkabout without filters or sealed suits. The crew were infected with a black organic spore that infected the host and began to transform tissue and organs into proto-morph. A sick crewman was taken back aboard the landing vessel to be treated in the infirmary. Things quickly got out of control. A fast growing Neomorph bursts out of the crewman's back. The pilot scrambles for the armory after looking her fellow crewman in the lab with the face mangler. The pilot pulls an assault shotgun from the rack and starts wildly firing bursts hoping to clip the uninvited guest. She uses a heavily modified short 12 |Gauge Shotgun as pictured above. The goal of the project is a recreation of that build. Not as easy as it sounds.

Time to GRAB a GUN !!!

The IMFDB gave the following reference picture of the shotgun:

Time to find some suitable base guns to make the build:

I replaced the grip right out of the box. This was no easy task as the grips I purchased were for a motorized M4 grip. This is a spring loaded shotgun and the grip shoulder stock combination are not compatible. I modified the the inside of the grip and added materials so the grip would seat properly. Ounce attached the grip was fully supported. The "real" FAB shotgun M4 stock will not fit an Airsoft shotgun frame. I opted to keep the one made for it and replace the butt stock.I removed the six shotshell holder from the rail assembly to use on the replacement top rail assembly when it arrives. The two sets of rails in the picture will be put on the new rail system. Also I am not sure if the shotgun picture from IMFDB is of the actual Alien Covenant film. I ordered the actual FAB front slide. I hope to adapt it to the airsoft. I will have to take down the whole front barrel assembly and hope I can make everything fit. I want to be able to rack the slide.

Replacing the buttstock was simple. Pull the old one off - replace it with the new.
More parts arrived:

The Top rail matches the Prop Image - but they do not make one for the short barrel shotgun rig. I will have to use a multi-tool and cut the metal off. Also the two side rails on either side of the front sight have no way to mount - it is not designed for the rails to be installed there. Drilling holes and metal screws to adapt to the frame the only way to make it work.

Cutting down the top rail proved to be a lot of work:

Filing down the ends and the sharp bits to make them smooth. I will paint the later.

I call that a win.

It took a lot of filing and shaping to make it feel right. One bad cut - and the part is ruined. But I was happy with the outcome.

Waiting on the FAB Fore-grip to arrive in the POST.

In the photo it looks like the top frame is cut flush straight across. I hesitated making the cut because there was no undoing it if it was too short. I still can - but I could ruin all the work in one cut. I do not have a metal working machine shop. I have power tools - buy not precision power tools for metal. I am going to hold what I have got. I will detail the paint job and weathering and see how it looks. Also I found only the right shape 9 slot system instead of 12 for the front rails. I might change it in the future. But I am not sure the gun pictured below is from the film. The rails in the movie look a little shorter.

Upon further research (actually reading the article) this reference photo is of the prop used in Strike Back Season 4 - Not Alien Covenant Prop - but close reference.

"I told you to READ the whole article !!" Major Rachel Dalton - Strike Back

. . . . . So - Some more research will have to be conducted.

Some parts in the photo are not available from the manufacturer. They offer newer models with more features at a greater cost.

I wish there were better prop shots of the shotgun from the film.

The more I watch Alien Covenant the better I like it. I enjoy it - that is all I need to know. The plot would not work if the crew did not get infected. Ridley Scott did not fool around with an elaborate accident - he simply had the crew walk out into the forest and get exposed. They immediately came under attack - and then they meet the most diabolic serial killer in human history . . . and he HATES humans. There is something to be said for keeping pace and telling the point of the story - not necessarily getting bogged down in the weeds with the mechanics of making it happen.

For those who have never tried to adapt Real world rifle parts to an airsoft base would know that they are not compatible. You can build, hollow out, re-thread, screw, unscrew, drill, fill, and fit to make it work. This project involved a lot of modification getting the FAB hand-guard to fit onto the tube/rail. I ended up using a chisel and hammer to remove enough material to get it to work. This project will also involve a repaint and weathering.

Good stuff! I considered doing this one back when I did the rifle, but just couldn't find any reference outside of screencaps. Good luck with the build :)

Thanks - it turned out well. It was a real pain getting the FAB parts to fit. I think I am going to weather it and a dd a few details. I will post new pictures when I am done. Thanks Simon.

Not a huge Covenant fan, but I have a stamped 870 SBS that I’m tempted to use to follow your lead. I also have a very similar barrel shroud as that one, although I think it is designed for a Mossberg 500

Wow...quite the project and not made for the faint of heart (unless you're fitted with a pacemaker:eek::eek:). Great workmanship/research and the result, so far, is the bomb AFAIK:cool::cool:(y)(y):love:
