Alessandra's ANH, ESB, and ROTJ Luke Skywalker Lightsabers

Trust me I have the Tandyleather strap a whole bag of them. They are very nice looking but NOT wide enough at all. They are too narrow only about 16mm in width. That is why I continued on searching with thegreatgalling and found the WBC Industries strap. It works so beautifully with the TandyLeather D-ring. Hardely ANY spacing between the D-ring and the strap on each side of the bottom stright part of the D-ring that is. :)

Tarkin - thanks for the advice! I have a bag of 10 of the TandyLeather D-rings, so I'm going to try parfaitelumiere's advice and cut out a portion of one and try crimping it down, then leave one normal, and then I have a third D-ring option coming from eBay soon - so I'll do comparison shots on the end of the Graflex soon. Gathering all these pieces has been a lot of fun!

Thank you thegreatgalling! I sent you a PM back!

I'll post some picture updates in a few days when my Exactra 20 gets here and the various D-rings I'm going to end up with. And my Rylo ROTJ should be here soon, so I'll do it all in one photo post.

Darth Detroit, I also still find myself checking on eBay every few days for 2-cell and 3-cell Graflex, even though I don't need another. I got my Exactra for like $50. I thought I was going to get it for $10 until the last 20 minutes - and I will continue to look for 'bargains' on the Exactra 19 and 20s. ^_^

And thank you for your input and advice everyone!

You guys! Look what arrived! My Rylo ROTJ Luke Skywalker saber! Here it is next to its ANH and ESB brethren. It's so much better than I expected. I accidentally chipped a TINY bit of paint off the clampcard when doing a short cleaning, but it's barely noticeable. I'm actually glad my ROTJ saber came used, because it gives it the appearance of slight wear and tear so it matches the other two perfectly. Now I'm just waiting on my plaque and my Christmas visit to my parents so I can build the acrylic display stand.

Oh, right, my Exactra 20 came in, too. So you see four bubble strips - from left to right - Parks Sabers bubble strip, Blast-Tech bubble strip, Rebelscum bubble strip (not polished at all), and finally, the real bubble strip.

The circuit boards - from left to right - Blast-Tech circuit board, then the Slothfurnace circuit board.

Here is the comparison of the D-rings I have at the moment. I like the middle one the best, which is the TandyLeather D-ring, though the set from thegreatgalling haven't arrived, and are likely what I'll use.

Lookin great!

That reminds me I have a rylo ROTJ unfinished saber in the parts bin I need to work on.

If you weight the ANH, the grips will travel over time due to the force and adhesive giving way. If you do have to glue them, I find that rubberized super glue works very well.

just a tip on the saber stand, try to make it moveable like that one you show with the pole sticking them in place, it gives you more option to adjust as getting the correct diameter for the "grip" type sabers can be tedious.. i know, since i made several mistakes in getting them correct... LOL

cheers

Clutch, yeah, I figured that out. I ended up putting some sort of superglue on the underside of each end of the grips. If I continue to have problems with it, I'll try some of that rubberized super glue.

Ah yes, ehwwong. I was thinking since it's for specific sabers, I'd measure the diameter of each saber where I plan to rest it on the stand and build a cardboard mockup to make sure that they rest so that they rest flat and level, despite differences in hilt diameter.

I may still commission you to do a stand, if you don't mind, depending on how much time I have in my dad's workshop over Christmas. I'd provide those dimensions for the cradles.

Hi Alessandra.
Could you do a good pic on black background of the bubble stiprs together, like you did for D-rings,would make a good picture for the strips!

About D ring,I prefer the strap in the middle, but the ring on the right, shortened in the middle to match the strap depth, and it will give a better "O" shape to the ring.

modified pic on the right.

you can grind the bottom of the strap to match the graflex handle radius, would be better for the eye.

Haha, I can try to put the strips together on a black surface. I'll definitely be using the real bubble strip, of course.

The black "surface" I used for the D-ring comparison picture is actually my thighs. I was wearing some black warmup pants and had the saber held in between my legs. If you rotate the image 90 degrees CCW, you can tell, though the line between my legs obscured in the shadow of the saber.

it's good thing ;)
I use to take pics on black background, displayings items on a black faux fur collar,if it's done correctly, all the background appears black 000000,if not correct,I add some mods on paintbrush, but,I don't know why, depending on computer(old windows machines) some mods don't appear, and results are really ugly....
I have seen these problems on some flowers photo on my facebook page,or some mineral or...lightsabers...

Okay, the sabers are pretty much complete. I'm going to attach the D-ring to the ANH saber immediately after this post.

Here they are, in all their glory, bubble strip and circuit board cut installed! Which is harder to do than you might think with hand tools only.

And here's a real quick D-ring comparison, the one I'll be using is the one in the upper-left, courtesy of thegreatgalling! Thank you!

Now I'm just waiting on my custom plaque and planning my 3-tiered display stand. I also have a custom saber in the works, which will not be static, but include a Crystal Force 5 with a 10w green Ledengin, hopefully!
