Adding an oil slick to a coat?

My Joker crocodile coat is finally arriving this week. It's pretty decent however it doesn't have the oil slick that the real one has. I've been looking around online for ways to add one but I can't find absolutely anything about how it's done.

Anyone that has any information would be helpful as I'm trying to get this done to wear opening night. Thank you all :)

what i was going to do is get the best looking coat, cover each piece of the pattern in silver nail varnish then go over that in purple nail vanish, i dont know if it will work but its worth a try. which coat did you get btw? im thinking about this one s-l1600 (1).jpg

Oh dang. That looks better than the one I got. I'm kind of broke right now so I went with this one while I save up for a better one.

Hopefully it comes out pretty good and works well for now. And I'm not sure how the silver varnish would work as that tends to be opaque. This seems to be some sort of insane high gloss.

That effect is called iridescence. (It can be seen in oil, soap bubbles, pearls...)

Thank you so much. Just with that one extra search term I was led into the world of holographic effects which in turn led me to this...

It's a holographic spray paint. It looks pretty useful. Depending on how glossy my actual trench coat is, I might spray it with a clear coat to add glossy-ness then a light coat of the holographic for a nice subtle effect.

Be careful with the clear coat. I know I've accidentally dulled some of my props by adding a clear coat over silver paint and rub n buff

I really like Spazstix color changing spray paint. I have quite a few cans. They do lean on the purple side for the ones with purple. I do not know how they handle on clothing though.

Well, it's got a sort of plastic-y feel to it. Not really fabric like so hopefully it'll work.
