Well, its been a hell of a productive couple of months!
First of all I got to fulfill one of my life's greatest ambitions - To try on an original Christopher Reeve Superman costume!
And I know damnwell I don't fill it out as well as he does (yet!)
As modelled on cKing's trusty mannequin!
Just as I expected, it drastically differs from what you may think in texture and colour. As this was a flying costume, its actual shade was more an emerald green (for the process shots) but no matter how many times we photographed it (in whatever light) it came out blue. it's also a thick 2-way canvassy type material that I guess feels more like a wetsuit when worn. the cape (with requisite slits for the flying rig) was a fave as it billowed out to what seemed like 10 feet across! phenomenal. lacking the original, the belt was of my own making (could you tell?
Many thanks to Mike Hill and cKing for making dreams come true
As for my own costume, well, based on seeing the real one, small changes are planned, but refinements aren't as the original is far from perfect, structurally, so its more like mine than I thought!!
Remember my fiancee finding some old PVC trousers that I thought would make good boots? Well thanks, babe..
Notice the notch pattern on top of the boot is only the cardboard template I'm using to cut the fabric. My heartfelt thanks go to Kris Meadows esq. for providing the basis for this design, as believe me, folks, its a damn difficult shape to achieve accurately. I can tell you for a fact that NO OTHER REPRODUCTION I've seen has the correct notch.
The 'sock boot' is skin tight and I was lucky to find this fabric. I reccommend LYCRA BACKED PVC if you want to attempt these, and follow a basic boot pattern.
With any luck, my next post will be the COMPLETED outfit!
Thanks also to my main man WackyC
