WOW! Someone bought it for $27,500.00!!!

I just updated my Mannequin with a new costume from Southern Wings in South America. Great costume, the S is sligtly off, but it beats the hell out of my old suit.

southernwings are the best experience I've had on ebay.
I got one of their costumes too Steve.
However, there were a few things that I wanted to see them modify on the suit so that it was more accurate. They agreed to work with me on the details and have been incredibly helpful and patient and are just about to complete my new costume (which should be just about as close to the movie version as possible considering we haven't had a real costume to take the pattern from).

The new costume they have made for me is a lighter blue and it has the correct shape "S" on the chest which is now sewn into the costume just like the original. They've also made a cape with the pleats / folds and padding around the shoulders. There are a few other details that I asked them to include and they are nearly complete. I should have the costume here in a couple of weeks and I'll be sure to post pics.

Putting this together for the first time was a thrill -

Though it still needs refinements and is only about 80% done. The angle of the pic is so you can't see the fact that the zippers on the CABoots don't get past my ankles and are all wrong in general. A second pair is apparently on their way but I strongly advise caution with sizes and styles when ordering boots - You never know quite what you're getting. I also can't cut the cape to proper length without having the correct length boot. This is how the old vinyl trousers look simply pulled taut against the calf.

You can probably see why - Being far more movie accurate - I'm loathe to pay $250 for something that isn't right...

The cape is almost done and really is the highlight of the costume. Though difficult to make and awkward to put on (requiring at least two of you) you feel the Man of Steel is real the minute it billows out from behind you..

More progress pics soon!!

Mart,

That looks OUTSTANDING!
I love what you and your seamstress have done with this. I can only hope that my southernwings version looks as good as this! Fingers crossed.

(No sign of MY boots from CABoots yet either).

Thought I'd finally show my face as I've been losing pounds to get into this thing - consequently is now a touch loose!!
This is my cape progress - Notice the pleats and the collar around the back of the neck. Though difficult to achieve (and it still needs a touch more padding!) We're nearly there..

I forgot my belt (like an eejit) but you can see the shapes coming together here nicely;

And this is the completed rear. though the cape is still in need of cutting to the correct length, the symbol is complete!

The boots are coming soon...

Cheers to Wacky..

Well, its been a hell of a productive couple of months!
First of all I got to fulfill one of my life's greatest ambitions - To try on an original Christopher Reeve Superman costume!

And I know damnwell I don't fill it out as well as he does (yet!)

As modelled on cKing's trusty mannequin!
Just as I expected, it drastically differs from what you may think in texture and colour. As this was a flying costume, its actual shade was more an emerald green (for the process shots) but no matter how many times we photographed it (in whatever light) it came out blue. it's also a thick 2-way canvassy type material that I guess feels more like a wetsuit when worn. the cape (with requisite slits for the flying rig) was a fave as it billowed out to what seemed like 10 feet across! phenomenal. lacking the original, the belt was of my own making (could you tell?

Many thanks to Mike Hill and cKing for making dreams come true

As for my own costume, well, based on seeing the real one, small changes are planned, but refinements aren't as the original is far from perfect, structurally, so its more like mine than I thought!!
Remember my fiancee finding some old PVC trousers that I thought would make good boots? Well thanks, babe..

Notice the notch pattern on top of the boot is only the cardboard template I'm using to cut the fabric. My heartfelt thanks go to Kris Meadows esq. for providing the basis for this design, as believe me, folks, its a damn difficult shape to achieve accurately. I can tell you for a fact that NO OTHER REPRODUCTION I've seen has the correct notch.
The 'sock boot' is skin tight and I was lucky to find this fabric. I reccommend LYCRA BACKED PVC if you want to attempt these, and follow a basic boot pattern.
With any luck, my next post will be the COMPLETED outfit!

Thanks also to my main man WackyC

Way to go Martin! I would kill to see that suit in person. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for many people. The boots look like they're well on their way to being completed and the costume looks awesome!

Wow, those boots look fantastic, as does the whole costume. Awesome job!

I'm glad to hear that Southernwings is a good source for a Supes costume. I often wondered about them.

small favor to ask for anyone with a cape replica.

i found a local guy to tackle the cape for me, but he is sorta mystified at the pattern misterfusion gave me, as well as how to do the neck.

so... i was hoping anyone with a replica cape could take some shots of the inside neck area and pleated area for me.

any pics are appreciated, and if anyone has a screencap or two of how the cape layed on reeve's shoulders from the back, that would be appreciated also.

thanks!
chris
