Abedneno Droid hunter project

I’ve recently found myself wanting to make a new SW impression inspired by the multitude of concept sketches of background characters in the various “art of” books.

I wanted to create an Abedneno character as their aesthetic had always appealed to me and Ray Nogues makes a lovely mask I could use as a base for the character.

I felt I needed to incorporate many of the traditional aspects seen in SW character design.. old military surplus items, Japanese inspired layering, angular features of “reconditioned” armour parts etc etc and of course blending antique gun parts to create something very much of that universe.

starting with the under layers I aquired some old Soviet quilted cold weather pants, a loose linen wrap around shirt, some brown PO ZU low boots (which are so meta but so perfect) and a Short- ish linen poncho.

for the hardware I will use an imperial officer cuirass, painted and weathered with extra greeblies and pipes added and a Hungarian leather ammo bandolier and pouches.

I wanted the blaster to represent a repeating Ion blaster (with the character being a droid hunter) so decided a blend of an inert m40 with the Jawa grenade launcher replica by Field Marshall would look about right (once I added some power cables and a belt slung power pack)

I will post some images as and when the parts start to arrive for my build but for now, here is a crude attempt of a concept sketch of the character in the style of those with way more talent!

So whilst I’m waiting for various parts to arrive for all over the world so I can start my build, I decided to put together a sidearm for the character.

I had previously purchase the A180 kit from AW but had never been particularly satisfied with the finish or accuracy, so it sat, unloved in my workshop cupboard for over a year. I was tempted to buy one of Field Marshall’s kits but having already spent the money could not really justify it to myself...

today I did something about that! I assembled the AW parts and screwed them to the airsoft Luger and proceeded to repaint and weather the whole gun. I didn’t want such a large area to be bare metal and also felt it needed a few greeblies which I had going spare.

the targeting sight was an experiment I’d previously undertaken turning aluminum tube on a makeshift lathe. I intend to add a lens at the front and a short section of coiled pipe at the back, a bit like the merr sonn power 5.

hopefully I’ll have the parts to start the rest of the costume building soon so should have more pictures to post then
