ABC Lifesize head from scratch...

SirRound,

I'm amazed at the excellent work with the ABC robot head you're making from scratch. I didn't even realized this project started early this year. I'm going to keep track of this project to see the finished head. :) Keep up the great work on this and other projects of yours in the near future. :D

@Rebo,

Well, I'm a bit jealous you've actually have more than me done. :D The Hammer looks good, even rendered it before you started... It's not entirely screen accurate but definitely has the ABC feel. You already took the eye socket hurdle though, I'm still brainstorming on that one.

@Hangar18Studios

Glad, to hear the GA kit isn't that great. I almost bought one mind you, but I had a $$$flow problem and decided not to. Still 175$ for a kit is a lot I think.

@Aegis159

Nice going seeing that quote about one year later... :lol I still like to see them pics. One member promised me sum through PM, never got back to it though. Like to see Tsukuda pics also. Bragging about winning prizes and all. Gegegege.

@turok96

Thanks for the kind works. Hope I don't dissapoint yall.

Planning to start on the jaw this evening. But still need to figure out the pistons behind the "dentals".

Well, looking for some screengrabs again. Luckily I have a 1080i HDTV broadcast to work with. I should however have some player that allows me to go through it frame by frame.

Scanned through the ABC with Fergie on it's back part, and my doubts about the jaw being solid are right. It's not. It's just like a "normal" jaw. So it looks like the kit's seems are actually ment to be cut there. Have to replan the jaw now a little.

Also, "judging" from the way the jaw moves, there isn't any hinge or joints supporting it under the head. It's just balnced through the pistons I guess, but I have to watch that one closely again when Rico fires it up.

Unfortunately my pc is heaving severe problems. I need to see more scenes to start working on piston positions.

Darn.

Well solved the pc @#$%.. Faulty mem is a badass...

Sorry for losing the images.
I'm in the middle of a domain migration and I have to upload all my @#$%. again.
And the only thing I can use right now is the crappy webinterface that lets me upload one single file at a time.

The update, slow steps, getting used to the new material and so on.

As I go further into this more questions arise. I now also have to deal with material thickness on the parts, I used paperlike cardboard (thin and not so thin) on the proto...

I'm now trying to get some more screencaps at 23:45 for Pete's sake...

hehehe well I'll reply a little faster this time ;)

Unfortunately I've only got these shots from my site of the kit from 6 or so years ago. They're not the best as the flash pretty much washed out ALL of the subtle weathering on it. You'll notice that i went in a little different direction than the red rust color seen in the movie.... went with more of an artic/winter camo...

I kept the slight backward slant in the piece on purpose, bored out the barrels in his fist, and added the fibre to his eyes. otherwise it's pretty stock...

Anyway, I'm overdue for a visit with the big piece of machinery so if I can help you out I'll see what I can do.....

It looks awesome.

:eek

Shame the pics ain't larger.

What's all this about a meeting????

:love

I wanna know more.

The highlighting on the hoses and stuff really works wonders and makes me think the kit is great without modding the belly.

Have any details on how you managed the fibres?

Very minor, so saving them pics for the next time...

I hope I get my hands on more refrence material... I'd hate to do stuff over.

Okay, not much but...

Added bracing to easily connect the adjecent sides.
It's all not as easy as just making that cardboard thing again in wood.
More precision is needed and additional thoughts.

The thing already feels sturdy.
I will add more bracing to make it more solid.
I have no idea yet about casting, so better to be safe than sorry.

This is really shapeing up looks great. Keep the updates coming I'm really looking forward to them.

Thanks for answering. I knew I had seen it before but couldn't remember from where and it's been ages since I've seen that movie. I think I need to go rent it to refresh my mind. :D
