A new Chewie in Germany

Another stage is done. Now just put your feet and you're ready to go. The sound generator is my next construction site. Everything I've found so far is really crazy expensive..

Another surprise. I spent a full 3 hours today adjusting the mask. Result: nothing!
It's extremely annoying and disheartening when you don't get it done. I also thought, some upholstery here, some there and that's it. No, it's not that simple. After trying and trying several times, I had to stop. I slowly noticed how aggressive I was and I didn't want to damage the expensive super mask. By constantly taking the mask on and off, the "mustache" has spread a bit - I think you do that with hairspray, right?
Well, I'll try to get more pictures and information before I try again.
I knew that the head is an extra heavy part, so I had someone who knows how to do it. But I didn't think that this simple thing would be so annoying after all.

Then I'll surf a little and let off steam on the last parts of the costume. The right upper arm is still in work and then only the mask and feet remain.

Done. The suit is ready. Tied the last knot tonight. This means that 110 days have passed since the beginning and 182 hours of work have gone into it.

Now comes the final spurt. The feet - I played around a bit and found that with the current boots it is better to lift the front side in order to have a more comfortable stand. It should be boots to prevent twisting.

And the mask still has to be adapted to my head. Now I have to clear my apartment of all the Wookie hair. New pictures are coming soon

Yesterday fixed the strap to my mask. With epoxy glue. Lubricate nicely, press and wait. Today the clamps removed. Bombproof, I'm impressed. I will probably have to use a little firmer upholstery at the top so that there is even less room for maneuver. But, so far I am satisfied.

Not so with the feet. I tested it today. Is nothing for me. Will resell them if anyone wants to have. Apart from the fact that they are quite heavy on my feet, I can't walk with them. They buckle outwards. If it weren't for the belt, they would buckle. As if I had bow legs. And I don't have a secure footing, I don't even want to talk about leaving. It's a shame, then I'll have to keep tinkering. But I liked the feeling of being so big. :)

Oh, and the first boxes for the belt are there. So it's going on
img_20211101_1444038vkjq.jpg

It's a shame you can't get on with the stilts. I use them and once I got familiar with them I found them very stable and comfortable. You do need to tighten up and leg straps a lot. I also screwed some shoes into the bottom so there was no movement at all

Also I found them really heavy as I had foam wrapped around them. I changed that for mesh with hair latched on which made them a lot lighter
Yes, these are really hard. Or it just seems like it to me. The stilts are not made of plastic, so the weight is probably justified. But they are not stable. Of course, they may still have to be set. I will deal with it a little more closely for the next few days.

So, today we finally had some time for my Wookie. The feet. I hadn't thought that this was what was causing me the most stress. Well, today I cut the record again and took care of my right foot. I glued the panels together with spray glue and then (I hope) cut them in the middle. Thus, the plate can then purely because of the stability. Then a little more rounded and done. It doesn't look like much, but it still took over 3 hours.
The other one and I can temporarily attach the boot and do a "test run".

Today my toes arrived. Surprising for me: they are made of solid material and made of silicone. They also have a little more weight than expected. Definitely not like the one in Adam S.'s video. Then I have to think about how to attach them. And with what I get them brown.

Awesome project. But it is excrutiating to wait for the images to load. Almost 2MB per image is huge for movile phone users and even for my network at home.

And again found some time to continue working on the feet. Oh man, why do your feet take so long? I was there for 5 hours today and felt nothing. But at least things are progressing.
Today I glued both feet together and cut them to size on the left. With grinder and rasp. Not my best work, but it should work.

Then I tested the boots. My insoles fit in and the boots are comfortable. It's just the angle that worries me. When you have the boots on, they keep you stable. The back side seems to push me a little forward. Very easy. So the question remains whether I mount the boots straight on or with an angle?
img_20211122_132544fdktp.jpg

img_20211122_132549ckkct.jpg

I once glued a piece (1.5cm) to the front and then to the back of the boot. To test. It felt a little better when the piece was in front. But it can of course also be the case that it is completely different later at higher altitudes. It's really worse than tying all the hair.

So it goes on. First I had a look at the boxes for the belt. I bought them on the internet and on Facebook. But I had already thought about it and found the appropriate file for a 3D print. I had made a sample copy and now wanted to compare. I don't think the pressure comes close to that. So the decision to buy the boxes was the right one.

Next in the workshop. Then I saw the first crap. The glue is probably not as great as I had hoped. Or maybe too cold? In any case, the wooden plate has separated from the foam. It's annoying and disappointing. I have to find something better.
img_20211129_140307u6ktv.jpg

img_20211129_140315vdkwc.jpg

Then I started to round off my feet. After a few attempts it came about. For comparison, another couple - from someone who is clearly more talented than me. I'm not really satisfied with it, but I'm ready to give it a chance.
Mark the shoes to see what has to be removed. Something with a sharp knife and rasp and there is the foot.

How was that with your toes? How should I fix it?

I can see it coming, I'll have a heart attack before the part is finished.

So what happened: the thin wooden panel was curled. I suppose that's why the spray adhesive didn't hold - or it was just too cold.
So I bought a new board and this time coated it with a primer. If I roughen it a little after it dries out, the glue should hold great. Well, that will show.

img_20211130_220350zbjxm.jpg

So, after she has detached the sheet from the foam sheets (I think because it has curled up), now the second attempt follows.
The plates slightly roughened, the plates somewhat straightened. Spray adhesive on it, dry something with the hair dryer and then press together. With a little weight on it. Let's see if that's it now.
I still don't know how to get my damn toes on.
