We managed to get 140 of the Disney plastic coins which I painted with a gold plate spray and then weathered them slightly. We popped them in a wooden chest and then added 20 of the MR regular gold coins on top as a mix plus the Disney jewels to complete the look. The key sits outside the chest.

that... honestly is not something i ever thought of doing. any ideas on tackling a life sized chest from the first movie? or an aztec knife to lay on top?

Been brewin' in my head for a while now.... And I'm just 20 minutes from the new home of the stone chest from POTC1.

The real surprise is how many coins it takes to fill a large space. The one in the movie that held the coins must have had a shelf tray at the top, otherwise it could have held thousands of coins.

Creating a life sized chest was my first thought, but to keep my sanity, I have been trying to limit myself to displays that I can fit on a Detlof shelf.

I really like the knife idea, and with some dried blood on the blade it would be a perfect fit.
