3d Printed Doctor Who Props by Doctor Octoroc (building & finishing thread)

It definitely looks like the butt of the 3rd or 4th Doctor's sonic, only with what looks like the emitter "magnet" from the 4th sticking out of the end - as if it's an interchangeable part. Looks like it's inserted into the tail, as opposed to just being an extension of it. Most interesting...and on a side note, rather disappointing. I know I'm not the only one that was looking forward to a new sonic design! Hopefully PC as the next Doctor gets a revamp instead of using 11's sonic. Or we can hope that he shoves it into a CTScan...

Yeah I was kinda hoping for a new sonic design as well.. I've noticed the last few episodes of season 7 Smith sonic was acting worn out, kinda like Tennant's in the 11th Hour episode. So maybe Smith's will go out in the same fashion when Capaldi takes over.

I've noticed smiths sonic wearing out as well. To the point where he's hitting it and banging it to get it going. I didn't think of them getting ready to introduce a new one. Silly me.

To me the image for sure looks like the bottom of the old style sonic with a red knob just attached to the end. Like you twist it for different settings.

Perhaps it is...we all need to remember that we're just seeing a small part of it at this point...if the poster for "Day of the Doctor" isn't lying to us, this one should have a light...maybe it's a design trying to bridge the classic style with the light-up versions we've grown accustomed to...I'm just sad there's no apparent nod to the alt 8th design, but I guess you can't have everything...

I hope I haven't sidetracked the conversation TOO much here with my observation...

I finally finished my 11th Doctor's Sonic:

This was my first time painting a prop, so I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. Now to try and make something out of my 8th Doctor's alternate... If I can get it looking even half a good as the ones on this thread, I'll be happy.

Many thanks, Doctor Octoroc for this run. I'm in if you decide to do another.

I finally managed to get my Alt 8th finished - this is definitely one of my favorite pieces in my collection. When I get a new battery for it tomorrow (downside this thing EATS A27 batteries, may have to try a different type) I'll post some pics.

Building this sonic has been a great project, diverting without being frustrating! Thanks again, Doctor Octoroc!

Try three L41's taped together...I think they're the next size down from the L43 button cell batteries that CO sonics usually take. They worked like a charm for me and seem to be holding up fairly well after a few weeks!

Excellent job! It looks lovely next to your classic Who sonics as well!

Thanks TickTockMan. It fits in nicely, doesn't it?

Thanks, I'm gonna have to give that a try! This battery situation is more serious than I thought! I bought a fresh A27 YESTERDAY and today it's dead. Didn't think I played THAT much.

But aside from possibly re-jigging the battery situation here is my Alt 8th Sonic!

Fun project, to be sure!

Very nicely done! I like the weathering on yours--you got just the right color patina!

Thanks! Patina appears courtesy of Rub 'N Buff!

I have no idea if I'm applying it correctly, but that color is straight outta the tube! It's aptly called, Patina 76364D.

The part that is visible bears a strong resemblance to the handle of the classic sonic from the Pertwee/Baker era, with the addition of a control or button to the end. I hesitate to suggest that this might be the trigger for the "Moment" spoken of by Rassilon in "End of Time"
