38" Super Star Destroyer review

Anyone that received this kit can post photos and honest review?

I just received mine and started working on it, mine has many airbubbles on most edges of building details, also had a few chipped parts on upper hull edges which are very thin, fortunately found the parts in the box which I glued back on, could have been packed a little more carefully.

The kit is very nice and very detailed for the size, I was a little dissapointed with the casting quality especially for that price. All in all I'm very happy I got this kit, will be a nice addition to my collection. Will post photos when done.

I had ordered a finished build version, but got a kit instead (He said because the models got broken during transport). That was a bit disappointing - but hey, one more kit on the pile. Since it takes a lot of space, I plan to start building it next week. Casting was pretty good - very few bubbles. Some small parts got chipped of during transport. I´ll have to repair that later, nothing major. The nose was sticking out of the box when it arrived! Luckily nothing serious happened.

My only concern is that the upper hull was warped pretty bad, but some hot air should help fix that.

Still not sure if I´m going to put lights in it. Has anybody tried this. Drilling hundreds or thousands of tiny holes isn´t exactly what I love to do :unsure

Anybody else started theirs? Or has anybody received a finished piece a can post pics?

Mine has airbubbles on almost all edges of small building parts, the ones that come in the individual bags, did you carefully inspect those parts?

I returned the first kit which was aweful, the second one was much better but still had many, I will post photos soon. I was told it's normal, I assume he doesn't have a pressure chamber, I would like to see photos of other kits to see the degree of airbubble. Can you tell airbubbles from detail shape? Edges on buidlings should be square not concaved, because it's small it's hard to tell.

I looked at the smaller parts and see what you´re speaking of. Edges are fine in my kit, just some of the detail surface had bubbles - resulting in minor detail loss. But that´s really hardly noticeable - and probably with all the superfine detail very hard to cast.

Gerado - your kit was the only kit that had problems. Everyone elses never expressed any unhappiness, I offered twice to you for a full refund, you declined. No, I dont have a pressure chamber to get rid of air bubbles, but these are kits that may need some sanding, and light bondo work. Since this has extreme detail, the master parts were made to resemble fine detailed work which looks like alot of "jagged" parts, but that is how they are supposed to come out. Now there is some truth, that castings over 20 can have lower quality than the originals, and all the building masters have been casted over again, and I replaced all the buildings and inspected them and they were all from the new freshly created molds. Once you do your assembly and paint it, you will NOT be able to tell...I've had to assemble a few of them and its not visible once completed.

Warping happens during hot summer days in a box, and corrected as the instructions say, by heating it up and carefully moving it back into shape, and its also will keep its shape once the top, bottom, and side equators are glued into place, it will keep it's shape.

Its very hard to send these to avoid some damage, the box has to be 44 inches long and 12 x 12 around...puts it into a oversize catagory...but a few things can be done to "repair" them, just ask for my advice.

I appreciate the honest review, but less than 5% had problems, the rest got excellent product.

Some pics of detail - after painted and assembled.

I'm eagerly awaiting mine, and most garage kits need some bits tidying up, thats half the fun!!. Has anyone decided to light theirs internally, as I would like to pick up some tips on doing this.

Without a pressure pot, it really is virtually imppossible to get a casting 100% bubble free. Most of the time you will just have pin hole surface bubbles which are easily cleaned up with bondo or Squadron Green spot putty. If you have a casting with large bubble holes that interfere with the model detail, then that is a problem.

But I agree that part of the fun working on some garage kits is that it can really hone your model building skills. Before you know it, you start kitbashing, then scratchbuidling......

Can't wait to see your progress pictures.
