32 inch ESB Millennium Falcon

Before I ask a semi-technical question, has anyone addressed the issue of your support system in here? I re-read through most of the pages here, but had no luck grabbing any info on them.
<heavy sigh>
I thought the MF I started had survived an a-sshole breaking in and trashing my storage space, but it's pretty well funked up internally, so I'm going to start anew. Given what happened to her, I've debated how insane to go with the internal supports/mounting. Although they were initialy conceieved as hard mount points, I should be able to get them to also be stabilizing structures for the skeleton. Any thoughts welcome along the lines of gunwell, maw, mandibles or drive placement for them. If memory serves, there is an almost Y-Wing shape to the rods in the ~32".

I only worried about the upper and lower mounting points for ease of bulding and display purposes. After all it's not going to be used for filming.
Internally I used a sandwich of 2 main pieces 1/4 ABS which incorporates the entire basic shape, supported by internal "abs blocks", so there is a hollow cavity throughout for wiring, guide tubes etc. This makes the model very heavy, yet you can throw if off a building and receive no damage.

The ribbing sits on top of the ABS core, surrounding a round, PVC middle core, between each rib is two support/placement reinforcements. Once again it's heavy but VERY strong.

That's how I did it anyway.

Excellent response, and it sounds really similar to what my concerns are. I want fexibility for manipulating the model while working, but also to stabilize/position her at the same time, and to build up internal strength. Only difference would be that I can maybe see wanting to look at the upper and lower hull square on while working, and that would mean the mandibles as well, or one out the back end. (hem... haw...)

1/4 ABS, did you shape it yourself? I need to see if there's a plastics supplier around me that will work to specs. Got spoiled back in the Bay Area, and Madison's a relative hole for some things.

Well, I have to make up my mind soon. Going to start after my current deadline in ten days! I thought I'd be pissy because of what happened, but I'm so damn pumped again, and have the past experience to learn from. Much rocking will ensue!

Thanks for replying to this, really cool...

Yes I shaped it myself. With a bench-top jigsaw. I should have noted that the internal core does not include or reflect the main outer skin which gave the model it's actual dimentions. The ribs sat on this, not the actual abs which is inside.

Excellent. Wish I had a better tool rig, myself. Very nice, man.

And yeah, the internal ABS layers are minus the framing/ribs... I understand that. I got as far as the 'outer skin' one layer above the ribs on the previous one, but am going to change dimensions, and probably fuss some over a wiring diagram. Nothing elaborate, but I want a solid system in there.

Shouldn't be responding to this from work, yeah JA is sweet, but I just want to get on the Falcon!

Does anyone else spend their lunch hour pouring over stuff like this? Am I the only one? :p

pphhhh.... I'm soon done. My Falcon is nearly complete now, the entire rear and the bottom are finished now. It is as accurate as I have been able to see from the reference material I have.
There is only a couple of places left to complete, which I will do so in the near future. I have already given most of the ship a gray base color.
Speaking of color, what do you guys think is the right base color?

Hey guys!
Going back to January, are you still selling the "tranny kit"? To whom should I speak about this and ask specific questions?

HI
About "tranny set",.. Im ready, but I'll have to ask Frank if he is. He will do the all castings.

Here is some updates:

My cockpit is almost done, Im done painting the interior and will soon start on the window core. I still need to ad seats, but it's prepared for it as you can see.

That looks amazing, Moe! A true work of art. I've some progress pictures of mine as well but lack someone to post 'em for me. Pretty early days for my bird, and I'm WAY behind, but some feedback would be cool. I'm going the neon route so it should be real bright!
