32 inch ESB Millennium Falcon

The "tranny kit" price will be $100 which Frank and I have agreed on.
Itmight seem like a lot to some of you, but think of "how bad do I need it" or the 20+ hours I have spend Scratching the gearboxes.
If you think it's too high a price - well, build them yourself....
They can be bought separately...

Moe will post the pics with Prices.
Ill cast them up soon.
Is anyone here ready for that assembly?

...and there's the rub. It'll be at least next Summer before I can use them, but will they still be available then?
My Falcon shell survived a 2000 mile move, but not some ******* breaking in to my storage space. I haven't the heart to tear her down right now, or the time. Still, these are too nice to pass up... moral dilemma... I don't want to take any out of the hands of you who are set to use them.

Hey all,
I'm new here so I'll try not so step on toes. If everyone is working on the same scale, then it is not difficult to divide and conquer. The people in the R2-D2 builders club and others that make replica costumes (Clonetroopers Stormtroopers ETC.) branch off and then SWAP pieces. I did my fair amount of molding when I worked at Icons and yes it is time consuming and costs a couple of $$$'s. But if I only had to mold the landing gear and say left front mandible outer detail? That wouldn't be that bad. I would then make say 15 pulls and swap them for other pieces that I needed before the molds dried out. It keeps people from getting a feeling of being taken advantage of. Plus if you supply a inferior set of details, the word would get around quick. Thats my 2 cents.

F.Y.I. I worked at Icons to help pay for flight school before they turned into an evil hive of substandard quality.

hive of sustandard quality well thats america all over
corprate america that is more money less quality
more profit more bucks in there pockets
you know we all hold the keys to stop this EVIL RAMPANT ACTIVITY
americans don't really know how much power they weild

we need to take our country back before there is repeat of what our ancestors did over 200 years ago

Welcome, Lear60man!

There's a Yahoogroup/mailing list that's all about the info/service sharing you propose. There's info about it a few posts up. You'd be welcome there, too!

Moes,
Absolutely astounding... with luck, mine will be joining yours by the end of the summer!
Incredible to see another so much closer to the 'finished' pile... ahem.

Moes, thats incredible ! It must feel pretty good to have the best studioscale Falcon aside from the originals. Are you still using those scratchbuilt Porsche entex parts you made (at least I think it was you)or are you using castings now? (not that there was much of a difference!)
BTW, I don't know if you are a member at MFalcon, but it doesn't make a difference. Can I put these pictures, or some other ones if you prefer (with a link to your site) up at studioscale.com in the members photos section ?
Congratulations!
Falcon Dude

Yes and no, I have always used castings of the Porsche transmissions but have used my scratchbuild "gearbox" parts.

Sure, you can put these pictures up at your site, as long your remember to link to my site.

Good to hear you're back, Frank. HELLO!

finally caving in to and joining the Cult of Falcon. Hear goes stupid question number one!
Does the plating around the perimeter dish overhang to be 1/4" or is that shear assumption? I have seen a few rather good drafts of the ship but I fear they've included this overhang in the lines and I need to establish the bare bones, and there is still some debate as to the actual size of the model. I'm way the hell behind but now's as good a time as any to start, I guess!

Hiya, Frank! You back or checking in from abroad?

Nathan, a bunch of us are just starting out as well in the Yahoo group. You'd be most welcome...

Thanks Jay,

I'll bookmark that and seeya there! BTW, someone pretty well informed in the model community told me a few days ago that ILM used some sort of hubcap initially to make this disc curvature. Is this bollucks or has anyone out there heard this rumor?

Nathan

Hey everyone....I've not heard that rumor about the hubcap, but I'd put nothing past ILM model builders.I think the 5ft. basic shape was made of some cut down acrylic domes. As for the plating side overhang,I've calculated it at .250 /1/4" myself.....whether that's 100% dead on balls acurate,I don't know...maybe Moe,or Tim will put their 10 cents of expertise in since those are the only two(at least the only other two I know of)who have completed the Falcon.
The actual size of the Falcon is still in debate....a horse not quite beaten to death yet(pardon the pun)some are saying now it is in the vacinity of 33.09373" in length,I was basing some of my demensions on some kit parts,photos..and doing some odd conversions...I thought the mid sized Falcon was slightly under 32"....more like 31.5"?But nothing is chisled in stone yet.It always helps to get outside opinions and critiquing...I just want to get as close as I can demension wise, cause I'm tired of drawing pictures&measuring...I want to start building.

I've seen that web page...and it is pretty interesting, but I don't put much stock in his blueprints or demensions... most of the demensions he has have been based on the large full scale prop/set,the 5ft miniature, and his own interpelation&I guess commone sense if the Falcon were an actual flying vehical..like a 747 jet.But its still a good web page,he's done something similar with the Slave I,and I think the Rebel Cruiser from Star Wars.Still nice to check out.
