2010 Custom Sonic Screwdriver Winners

Congrats to the winners! Some mighty fine sonic screwdrivers there!

My entry was number 26. It was a Dalek Sonic from the desk of Davros. :)

At least that's what it was supposed to be! Sadly, like my lightsaber entry last year no votes. I am determined to eventually get at least one in one of these contests!

The front is supposed to represent the eye stalk, the mid section is the Dalek bumps and the rear is supposed to be the Dalek laser. I distinctly wanted it to have more of an "original series" feel so silver and black were the colours of choice. If anyone has any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Congrats to everyone! I know this contest was awesome, because I'm not jealous of any of the winners. They all deserved to win!

For anyone that wants to know, my entry was number 32, or the illustrious "Star Trek the Next Generation" sonic.

Which has already received an unceremonious tear-down, and will get a proper buildup this time around. Well, eventually anyway.

Congrats again to everyone!

I actually thought it looked more cylon, but Next gen, or BSG, whatever you want to call it, it's my favorite, will you be posting how you made it? (I hope so.)

Mine was #31. I wrote a story for my girlfriend years ago, and I've been working on the sequel ever since, and in the sequel she will be making a clockwork sonic, so I've had this in mind for a wile, but didn't do anything with it, so I thought this would be as good as time as any.

It was made out of cut down pieces of cut down pieces of copper pipe, and copper pipe couplings. with cut down pieces of PVC pipe in side to hole it together. The blue lens on the end, is one of those "squished" blue glass marbles. The tube is acrylic, with brass bits I found at the hardware store. I got the clock parts onlike. The moter for the gears, and the other electronics came from Radio shack. Yeah that's right the end lights up, and the gears move. (well they did, I've since taking it apart to do a better job of wiring it up.)

Is it just me, or do some of these pictures look better now after the voting is over?

Congrats to the winners. I hope whoever claims my patches enjoys them.

I was number 34. Disappointed not because I got no votes, but because there was no mention of my sonic in any context. It was invisible. :lol

I like all of them!

Looking at all of the entries it's easy to imagine all sorts of different Time Lords, or other Whovian characters, using them. Each with their own history and adventures.

Congratulations to the winners, but mostly congratulations to all of the participants. :D

(Hope we'll see some build threads!)

Well, well done to everyone who entered! There were so many wonderful entries that I want to find out more about.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me.
I will eventually post a more detailed thread but the short story for mine is... All metal, can be completely broken down and reassembled. It has a removable "sonic core" for repairs or modifications. You can Aldo remove the shroud around the sonic emitter for repairs or mods.
I ha sound and light planned but didn't have time. Perhaps soon that will get updated.
Once again, this has been such a cool contest! A great time!

Im wondering If we should all do our "reveal" posts in one big thread, that way they can all be found easily by posterity. What do you guys think?

Congrats to the winners! I freely confess I didn't vote for any of the three top ones, but it was a difficult decision because they were all so cool. I do remember pondering on those top spots, though.

Mine was #7 and was intended to be a sort of meld between classic and new.

Parts included
A lipstick thing I found :p
An aluminum tube (unseen, inside the next part to add stability) epoxied inside the part where lipstick would normally sit
A "chrome" ink pen barrel
A steel rod
Several hard drive parts
And a gas nozzle from a disposable lighter.

What I liked about the lipstick container is that to raise the emitter, you pull back. Once upon a time I thought the Tennant Sonic did the same thing so I kept the lipstick dealie and then learned better (doh!)

i was thinking when i saw it that the handle looked like the gun of a dalek
nice work man

All of these sonics look very different in the higher res images. There are some that escaped my attention and these larger pics finally do them justice. I must have looked at the entries dozens of times and that dalek version never stood out to me, but in those pics it looks fantastic. Same for the trekky type one etc etc.

Hi everyone! I don't really know where to start!

This has been a great experience for me and I think for everyone else as well. I joined the RPF just as the voting was taking place on the $ store lightsabre contest back in November and was realy overwhelmed by the ingenuity and creativity of the group, it's such a joy to be a part of it!

Huge thanks to everyone who voted for my sonic and congrats to all the winners! Thanks again to The Next Doctor for organising this whole event. And to everyone who entered. It is such a beautiful group of designs, many of them have that wonderful BBC mix of pieces you can identify, and pieces you can't, just perfect! Just for the record, my vote would have gone with #26, I recognised it immediatly and was REALLY glad I didn't try to do the Dalek theme! Wonderful!

I'll get some info on the build and seperate elements of the sonic together, along with some higher res pics for all those who are interested, as soon as I can.

I'm off to see Iron Man now so I can't be very thourough, I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU!

I know I need to calm down but can we get a list of all the addresses sent to you The Next Doctor? I just want to make sure it was sent to you because it says on my PM list that I have 0 sent messages.
thank you

This was a very fun contest--so many creative entries. Congrats to all the
winners and let's be hearing from the rest of you which one you built and your story!!

Mine is #9, no votes, but a couple of "mentioned in passing" in the voting
thread and I never even expected that much for my totally plastic and girly
should-have-been-in-the-$-Store-contest build! But it takes all kinds, right :confused

Congratulations All! It was lots of fun seeing what people could come up with, I like the break down of some of them too.

I was entry #8.

On Mode

Although it wasn't part of the criteria, I decided to see what I could do using only 100 yen ($1 shop equivalent) parts. It was fun seeing what I could get, and ending up trying to go for the "old era" of Doctor Who props.

Anyway, if anyone genuinely like my version, PM me your address and I'll send it to you free! (It'll be by 'seamail' so a bit slow, I'm moving countries soon so I can't keep it). First come, first served I guess :lol

Shylaah, I really liked the glowing cyllinder section of yours, it was very original and would look really cool in the show.

Thanks Risu. It's a little antimatter chamber!?!
I wish I'd have had the savvy to make it slide like yours and
have the cylinder slide out then light up, but, alas, at best I'm just a tinker!
