Thats right, 20 bucks to the first person who correctly identifies the helmet used in Rollerball.
I have searched all over the place and seem to be at a loss.
I think the key identifiers in the helmet would be the following.
There is a snap located near the ear hole.
I suspect the ear holes were drilled into the helmet.
The edging of the helmet looks thin, rather than some of the thicker types, like on bell helmets.
There is a leather goggle snap on the back of the helmet.
I'm fairly certain that the chin strap is original to the helmets as well.
Not sure if that is enough to go on or not.
Here are a few pics to help.

The captures aren't the greatest, but I think they show the various details well enough.
On this last pic, I thought the damaged part of the helmet was interesting, not really sure what is going on.

Looks like your basic Riddell 80's era football helmet to me. The ear holes would not be drilled, and the snap would be for the chin strap.

Hey TandD
Don't forget the rules about posting auctions !
Completley wrong helmet by the way.
Football helmets do not have the little leather goggle snap on the back of the helmet.
As well, the neck line at the back of the helmet is wrong.
I have heard rumour that they are a British motorcycle helmet, though I have yet to prove that.

Those are definitely NOT Riddell football helmets!

They look like motorcycle helmets with ear holes drill in them, and football
face masks put on. :cool

Looks like a vintage Bell motorcycle helmet, like the Bell R-T which was around 70's to 80's.

CORRECTION: Even farther back in time.

Looks like either an old Bell dirtbike motorcycle helmet or an 80's BMX helmet. The snaps on the forehead are for the visor and the side snaps are for the chin piece. If i remember correctly the ear hole comes like that. I used to have one almost like it in the 80's.

That grand prix legends link...all wrong.
No goggle snap on the back of the helmet, wrong rubber edging, no button snap under where the ear hole goes.
EDIT
Oh yeah, no chin cup !
Also, impossible to be an 80s helmet, the movie came out in 1975. :)

Oh, sir, I'm not saying it's this helmet, just pointing out Mr. McQueen's use of the Bell RT styled helmets. The one in the link is a re-release. I'm only saying try looking through the vintage Bell versions. Plus what is that snap on the back on the grand prix legends link helmet?

Bell's been making helmets since 1954.

I believe the chin cup comes from a british riot helmet or firefighter's helmet around that time. I don't think you are going to be able to just buy this in one go.

Good luck, sir.

Oh yeah, look at the damaged helmet pic. You can see that the color of the helmet under the paint is orange. James Kahn's helmet probably retained some of the original orange in his color scheme. May be something to go on.

Hey Mechanic, not sure who youre comment is directed at.
There is a button snap on the side of the helmet, right below the ear hole.
There is what I call a goggle snap on the back of the helmet.
It is the little tab of leather with a metal snap.
Used for holding the starp of your goggles onto the helmet.
As for the helmets brow line.
There well may have been either 3 or 5 visor snaps along there.
They were removed if they were there in the first place, and conical studs installed.

That post is my first post.
No new info there.
As well, I have been in contact with Mr. Bob Burns.
His helmet is stored away somewhere right now.
He told me that at some point if he is able to, he would let me know if there are any manufacturer labels or markings on the helmet.
Its a big if though.
This was a number of months ago.
