2-1B Surgical Droid

I drill out the holes from the outside then grind down behind the holes so that the led flange hits it and just the end of the led sticks out.

I use a 3mm drill bit.

if anyone is interested.........

i finished the groove work today, just spot filling in little holes in the filler now.

got the neck hole to blank off next, nearly there.

there is a join line at the back of the neck on the real droid, i think i will omit this to give a cleaner look, what is your opinion?

Oh man can wait for this Chris.....you're sooooo close to having this completed. Great work mate :)

i know some of the lines look a little wonky, i am trying to copy whats on the real thing, in fact mine might be a little too refined!

the grooves may have to be deeper, i won't know until i try the first pull.

I won't show what others have already shown but here's some progress on mine!

Oh and I caved and ordered a Shure 55 .. I really thought I could live with resin!! Sigh!!!

Did a couple of test pulls today with white hips plastic. I'm going to modify some of the grooves and make them deeper. It's probably fine but I'm just fussy.

I'm back on 12hr night shifts tonight so I'll be back on it when I finish.

sorry for delay chaps, night shift really floored me and i was unable to do much,if you have done 12hr nights you will know what i mean!

i did modify the grooves, i was quite aggressive with it and it is ready for vac pulling.

i'm off now for the next few days so i should have time to try a clear neck pull.

if the plastic plays ball i hope to have some pictures up this weekend.

oh and the metal rolls arrived for the alice bands.

Oh man cant wait mate! I do 12 hour nights buddy and it always takes a couple of days to get out of zombie mode.

I'm old so it takes more than a couple of days, night shift should be banned!!!!

woohoo!

tried a pull with the clear plastic earlier, i was right to modify the grooves, much better result. came out with the right amount of definition and is tough and flexible,
its the same plastic as soda bottles so this stuff is pretty much indestructible.

its kinda hard to photograph something clear but here are some quick pics.

the ONLY issue i have is i am struggling to fit the buck onto my vac table, there is a curved flange around the edge, this should be no issue as its concealed inside the head.
its actually better to have this as it will give a better fit and something to bond it to the head.so i would NOT trim this off. i intend to use clear silicone as a bonding agent to the head and the neck ring.. i think if you used the likes of superglue you might get that fogging from the fumes, something you don't want on clear plastic..

the white one is the one i did last week, the lines are not as defined hence me going back and reworking the buck. sorry for the pics. i will try and get a shot of one attached to casting over the weekend. overall i'm very happy how it turned out.
