2-1B Surgical Droid

Hey guys, been working on a new neck buck this week for the clear necks, I abandoned the previous attempt. This was a 2 part job but it will be a 1 piece now. (Fingers crossed)
It's a nightmare to do but I'm sticking with this until it's done.
I am not going to work on anything else or starting something else, hopefully I will have a pic soon of the progress. I'm back on night shift for the next few days so ill get back on it as soon as I can.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I can show you something, did some more today. It doesn't look much for day five but the basic shape is there now. Just a bit of fine tuning left. Then I can put in the groove lines. I'll show you guys before I do or attempt any pulls with it. So far I'm happy with what I've done.

Even with a bondo neck fitted to a head casting it makes a huge difference.

That is awesome news mate. I've been holding out buying the 21b droid head waiting for the neck. The wait is nearly over :)

yes, it has been a long wait and i apologize to those affected.

i only have limited time here before it gets too cold to work in my garage, i need to get these done asap.

what the buck!

zorg has actually done some work on the buck...
so much work but looks so little. ......my lungs are almost entirely made of bondo dust now . i just quickly scribed the first 2 lines

i made it hollow for good reason plus i still need to cap off the hole at the bottom. just waiting to drop it into a thousand bits.

more to come......

i will have picture(s) tomorrow for you.

wondering if someone could send me a couple of rolls of that metal tape filthy had for the alice bands, i could include a length with clear neck/neck ring parcels.

obviously i would pay all costs.

I've got about 1.5m-2m of the metal tape left that I was sent. There are a few bends in it, and it has oil stains along it (which wipe off), but if you want it, it's yours. Drop me a PM.

Nice work Chris!

I wait 7 years to buy this head, and the next week that it is shipped from UK, you build the neck! Just my luck! :) lolll

hey i'm building the neck!

i wanna see fireworks!

didn't do anything on it today, was going back and forth to the post office, pesky customers lol

back on 12hr days tomorrrow so i don't think i will be back to it until mid week sorry.

did more work on it yesterday, i have about 65-70% of the grooves done. just part of one side to do.

my plan is to have a pull before i go back to work on sunday night. (a vac pull that is)

i will do more today, just having a rest after some concrete work in my garden.

also a big thank you to howlrunner for passing on the metal tape for across the alice band. this stuff is perfect.

nearly there with the grooves, i have 2 more to do, i just hope i'm doing them deep enough.
i will be using 1mm petg plastic.

also i just purchased a box of the aluminium embossing tape and will include some for your droids in the neck/neck ring packages.
i have some from howlrunner and its perfect, it will make a great improvement over paint on the alice bands.

tape is coming from the states so will be a wee while before it arrives.

Hey guys,
I have begun the soldering of the LEDs and I was wondering if they are supposed to be fit from the inside with just the dome part showing or from the outside with all the clear led parts showing?

I went to my not so exhaustive library of 2-1B pics, and can't see clearly ..

My guess is that it's done from the inside, because if it's not, then soldering of the leds to battery wires will have to be done inside the helmet with the LEDs installed .. doesn't make much sense imo!

This is the only pic I have that may say from the inside or at least, embedded enough that it doesn't change if you insert it from the inside or outside.

fit the leds from the inside, with just the dome part protruding out a little.

they can be held in place with the likes of epoxie sculpt. i tend to find if you use super glue it runs out the holes or over the leds making them cloudy.

Thanks Chris! So I'll remove some material from the inside and make it fit!
