That phaser is affordable, but from what people have said here, it has its own flaws. Not only that, it's static. At least the Playmates one can be given a makeover to look and function better than the QMx one. The holster is for an already overpriced pistol (that should have come with it in the first place) and the Jayne wrist strap falls into the "useless trinket" category of items they sell. The Muel is about the only thing on that list that falls into the price range for people who don't have thousands of dollars to spend on limited run items, and for people who collect that kind of item, then it's a great deal.
Nothing against those limited run items; they're beautiful pieces of art for sure. But there's more to be done in the $300-$600 range of good stuff that the average collector can afford. Instead they seem more interested in focusing on high end, limted run items or paper items that cater to a smaller crowd.
Case and point: the weekend of the Dr. Who premier they sent out an email about a great new Dr. Who related product they'd be announcing after the show aired. I'm thinking it could be a sonic screwdriver, TARDIS model, maybe even some Dr. Who maquettes. Instead it's a picture of a mostly naked 11th Doctor surrounded by angels that got a whopping 15 seconds of screen time. I won't be taking down my Bartlet for America poster to hang one of those up.
The fact remains though, they've announced lots of great stuff lately: hero Trek XI phaser, studio model of the Trek XI Enterprise, sonic screwdrivers, zat gun...and then nothing. Instead we get spoon fed statues (which are nice, but not the stuff we were promised), posters, and the occasional limited run, high dollar item.
