11th Doctor's sonic screwdriver at DragonCon?

I'm pretty hot for an 11th sonic myself...I just ordered the toy version which will hold me over, I just wish Qmx would at least update on where they are with production of these. If they can't handle the job, another more reliable company should get the license instead. It's not like there isn't a market for this prop - there is a HUGE market for it, both the 10th and 11th sonic so I don't see how getting these made is a huge risk or anything. There have been far more complicated replica props released in the past so it's not a "can't be done" issue....
I agree with Mr. Munson though - you can't really count on things until they are in-stock and ready to ship.

QMx showed a really well-done 10 sonic, that they have yet to bring to market. The 11 sonic they showed, conversely, looked like crap. So the chances we'll see that any time soon seem slightly lower than our chances of getting a 10, and that's looking like about half-past never.
You are right, though... It isn't that it can't be done. CT is working on his 11 and, though I haven't seen it, I am pretty sure it's going to be exactly what you're looking for. Unless you're looking for a licensed product, of course.

Yeah, I thought I read somewhere that CT was doing it for sure but I haven't heard any updates in a long while about that. If it's anything like his 9/10 sonic, I'm sure it will be just as good - if not BETTER than what would be available through a licensed company.
That being said, I would certainly be interested in the CT 11th replica. I have yet to purchase his Tennent sonic (I'm mostly satisfied with my repainted toy version) but if I ever get the 'itch' for a quality replica, I know I can count on CT to deliver. Sadly, the same cannot be said for Qmx...

I'm just surprised we haven't seen more extensive mods on the CO toy to fill the gap in the market while we wait for the licensees to get their act together.

I, myself, am thinking about buying another one or two just to mess with. (Read: completely dismantle and rebuild in a completely different manner) At the very least, I need to make the whole thing operate off of ONE switch in both positions. :lol

I finally took the spring out of my CO toy so that it operates with a "flick" as you see in the show. Much happier with it now. Would like to eventually figure out a button mod.

Ack! That's an excellent idea! Why didn't I think of that? Would it be especially difficult for the non-mechanically inclined among us?

Ive been able to mod my 11th sonic with an extra switch along the black grip so as it can activate the sound and light when extended with out the red button. My eventual goal so to figure out how to mount a microswitch in the grip area.

I'm considering make some prop replica sonic screwdrivers as I'm a big fan of doctor who and I film a fan series and metal sonic's would look good

Let me see I have understood this right. The reason why the prototype is so inaccurate is because he chose to replicate the one that no one has ever seen and has had no verifiable screen time rather than the one that most people have seen in publicity and screen shots. Gee, funny that. :lol
Again, I say... déjà vu.

Since I originally posted in this topic, I have seen a picture of 4 of the sonics used in filming, all side-by-side in their storage/transportation case. Now, granted, it wasn't the sharpest, most high def of pictures, but I couldn't make out any appreciable differences between them. AND NOT A ONE LOOKED LIKE THE PROTOTYPE FROM QMX.

Well then, good. Nobody will complain when the final version looks nothing like the prototype.

I'm kidding, of course they'll complain. :lol

The way I see it, if they never come out with it I save $300. Either way, there's an up side.

It'll be released sometime after the Mayan apocalypse and will cost no less than ten grams of unicorn horn.

Like someone said earlier, QMx is good a producing nice little trinkets and the occasional high dollar, limited run item, but nothing in the middle. Meanwhile, there's a guy in China stamping out 9/10 sonics left and right. I'll believe it when the things start shipping.

Faith in this product is at an all-time low!
I, on the other hand, am reserving judement. Plus, I get to see all you naysayers eat yoru words when this thing comes out AND looks great.

Don't get me wrong, if they can pull it off and it looks good and isn't priced up in the stratosphere, I'll happily purchase one. But much like the zat and hero phaser, it's a lot of talk and nothing to show for it. I get the need to build hype over a product to drum up excitement and support, but there comes a point when you have to show something for it. An exciting announcement followed by nine months of nothing will generally bring out the skeptic in most people though.

Really? Nothing?

Is that what you really want? Some mass produced POS "stamped" out in China?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the sonics in question are anything BUT a "mass produced POS 'stamped' out in China". They were referring to the sonics being made by a certain former RPF member that spent YEARS exhaustively researching those sonics so that he could produce the best working replicas available, and he even managed to fit a SOUND CHIP into them, when the original prop doesn't have that feature! Those that own them rave about the quality... somehow I doubt that will be the case with QMX's version... if it ever even sees the light of day.
