1/72 Hoth Echo Base Hangar diorama

Thanks brother! I'm starting to get a good feeling about it, lots of work for sure but I'm thinking it's going to look pretty close to that 1/48 the guy in Japan did. I'm still wary of the spot lights on the gantries though.
Looks awesome, man! The fun part is blending it all together...lol...

I'm sure your local hobby store guy has some train lighting that would work... If not, ebay and the internet are your friends! What exactly do they look like?

I'm sure I have stuff to do it already, it's just that at 1/72 it will be challenging to say the least. I think I have an image of the 1/48...let me see real quick...

echo base diorama.jpgthis is it, pretty impressive huh

The cave turned out perfect. Quite a convincing effect with that foam

Huh...all I'm seeing is a NEW Revell snap tite kit for 94 bucks, is that what I'm looking for? Or is yours an old school glue kit?

Yes, that is the kit. There is no glue version that I know of.

Also it looks like you could make a best offer at checkout if you want to try and get the price down a little more instead of the 89.09

If you do wind up getting one, I can give you some blueprints for scratch building a newer more accurate head, or you can at least use it as a template for the missing armor plates

For example, here is the out of the box head

For my first one, I just added the armor plating on each side as well as replaced the gun barrels, moved the chin guns forward a bit....

and angled the two side plates below the chin under the side guns

Those relatively simple fixes went a long way to making it look more accurate

For my second one I am trying to push myself a little further. I am not sure if I am going to scratch the head completely, but I will at least try to get a more accurate front plate and viewport area for the head in addition to those other fixes

I've done a couple of tries

This is my preferred one so far, but I think I might give it another go

With your attention to detail, I'd love to see you take a stab at one

Thanks Blakeh, I believe I will. Gonna be a while before I get to it though, but it sounds like it would be a really fun build. The shelf above will clear by 1/2 inch so it'll barely fit, but I'm sure adjusting the legs will give it room :thumbsup

LOL, no kidding right! I was measuring the shelf last night and she says, "what are you putting there?" So, I told her, she seemed ok with it. But a couple weeks ago we had a discussion about additional wall shelves for some of here crap. As long as she dusts them, ok. I usually do the dusting and vacuuming but I'm not dusting her shelves of junk. but in the back of my mind I figured if we ever split, I'll just have more shelves for my models already there! LOL
As long as the wife allows it!

sure thing! I did get some Gonk droids from shapeways, got the retro pilots, but might need another set, and these are cheaper and in CA, not the UK. I did get 3 of the speeders too.(but I got them from the source in the UK and paid way too much, and the shipping was ugly) However I didn't get the slip plates, thinking I could scratch some from evergreen stock. but I may just buy these. Some days I feel kinda lazy :unsure Thanks buddy! :thumbsup

Ah... So those are the snowspeeders you got... I was hoping these would be different lol... You just need to get your 3d printer going!

yeah, those are the ones...crappy castings though. I just wish Bandai had these in this scale, they'd be so nice. ah yes, the printer...gonna dig into that this weekend...I hope.

Yep, same here. Getting the stuff of the sprue was nerve racking...and I bought 3 of the snow speeders :facepalm
The Probe Droid was a pretty nice

Amazing details, but getting the parts off the casting sprues without breaking them was challenging

I still have nightmares from that one

Here is an example of one of the arm parts....

Although the hard work pays off as it is makes a very nice display piece

Leia1.jpgHer majesty arrived yesterday. She looked a bit tiny and I thought the scale was off, but...put her beside the Solo I have, and she's right. I keep forgetting Carrie Fisher was only 5ft tall. She's only had a shot of primer so far, but she's going to look incredible giving the pilots their briefing next to the Xwing! Anyway, she's perfect and exactly what I needed. BIG shout out to Gus of 3Dfalcon parts. He saw my product request on the Shapeways forum and stepped up to the task, and a fantastic job he did. I highly recommend you go to 3D if you need stuff, the products are perfect. I'm sure Gus will have her up on the site soon if he hasn't already. Gus is one awesome guy and a great designer :thumbsup
