1/24 scale Ralph McQuarrie concept X-Wing scratchbuild

What a beautiful kit. Geez you make this stuff look so damn easy to do. You really are a master craftsman Richard! :)

What a mess, huh? I used clear fishing line instead of fiber optics for the cockpit lighting since there's not a lot of room in there and I was afraid the fiber optics would be pinched and break under the circumstances.

Trust me I tried super hard to get there, but between mother nature and flat running out of time it wasn't to happen.

Yes, this will be my next model from his paintings. ( I've already sculpted out the nose, lol) This is like super retro, I love it! 24 scale of course.

OOH! That looks awesome! Can't wait to see it.

Wow REL that Y-wing concept will rock. Interesting that bubble guns came back in for the Republic Gunships in EpII. Seems clear that the new crew referenced some of R McQ's early paintings. Awesome stuff. :thumbsup

I found these LED flashlights for $1 a piece that were the same diameter of the engines, so I took them a part and used them for lighting. Since the RM X Wing's engines glow a whitish blue in the painting they worked perfectly.

A small tip for LED's.
File the round tops flat to create a wide angel light.
Helps get rid of those hot spots created by the focused round LED's.

BTW, I'm the "Allan" Richard has referred to at various points in this thread, and a paying customer to boot. So, it's not as though I jumped the rope and sprinted to the head of the line, with great indifference for the masses of the interested or those others who are similarly somewhat lighter in their wallets. Actually, it's with monumental indifference. :lol:love

LOL, Allan is a patron of the arts.

Got two of 'em in the mail today - both are GORGEOUS and PERFECTLY cast - I am very pleased!!

Rich, PLEASE continue to make more of these. The Y will be an awesome addition!
