Even his idea for the Enterprise made a tiny cameo in Trek III.

I've decided to make the cockpit easy for lighting by including a clear cast cockpit, vinyl masks to mask off the control panels, and a decal sheet with detailed instrument panels.

Simply apply the vinyl masks to the instrument panel, then put on about 3 coats of black primer to light block, paint and detail the cockpit, remove the masks and the light will only shine through where the mask's were, lastly, apply the instrument decals (will have pics of that step later)

Decal sheet, so far.

Are you going to give the orange and grey stripes to the sheet as well? I know they could be paintedd, but the have detail to them that would be tricky to reproduce.
